Some of you are going to get pissed off with this but I'm at the point where I just don't care. First off, what are we doing? As a people do you realize how stupid we look as a whole? We have people yelling out "******** the police" and for what? Just to yell it? Or are you doing something you have got no business doing, if you worried about police getting you. Being ignorant isn't cool, I'm sick of getting a bad rep for things we do as a people. Now I understand living in the ghetto isn't easy but buying into society like how we are seen on BET, being crazy doesn’t help us at all. Instead of giving into what people think is hood, cool and what not, fight to get out and make something good out of your life and those who don't live in the hood who try to act like you do, you are no better, quit pretending to be someone you're not, embrace the past and all of those who fought to get you to where you are now. Don't go around with your pants sagging and doing things that you know are wrong. We blame everybody else for our problems, except ourselves. Maybe if we acknowledge our own self-worth and actions, we will be able to shake these negative stereotypes that society has placed on us. This is all I had to say.

I completely agree with your views. Even though I may not be black, it is true nothing good ever comes from blaming someone else for are problems. Even if it maybe that person's fualt.

Everything you said is true, but it's more complex than all that. You really do have the government actively trying to keep you down; there is still extreme prejudice and racism; and on top of all that, it's hard to beat a mob mentality. It really is. Believe me, I'm all for pointing out stupidity as it happens, but it's not only your fault. Should you (as a people) still hold yourself accountable? You're goddamn right you should, but just realise that it's not just you, it's all people holding you back.

Blacks aren't the only people with this problem. As a "white" man, I could write a similar letter to my fellow Caucasian peeps.

Every race, every religious sect, every culture has its good and bad stereotypes and people.
With that being said, I completely agree. Hoping that being white doesn't make me biased. And whites have their bad points, too. I despise almost all of them. -.-

I agree! I hate all of the stereotypes and people buy into them.. I know about "Black Power" and things.. but embrace your race, don't just enlarge it to think you're cool.. You get one month to do that, and that is February [shortest month of the year.. x.x] but still! MLK and Rosa Parks and many others from the NAACP, SNCC, and many other groups didn't protest civil rights so you could give into stereotypes.. they fought so that you could let your true colors shine through.. and not be put down any longer... Our culture isn't talking like a "gangsta," dropping the N word to other blacks and then yelling at a white person for saying it.. Or just calling people that are white "Crackers" and watching them get confused and say, "I am not a saltine [type of cracker]" Who cares if we act how we do.. we are just us. Whites got a loooooooong time in history to just be themselves--so why can't we be the same without having stereotypes made out of it?

I agree on all of your points. I think its safe to say that we carry around a lot of false stereotypes in our society today. And while some people chose to play into these stereotypes it doesn't make them right in any way. But the fact still remains is that people buy into them, conforming to society's opinion on a race in this case. My view on the subject is that people will let themselves fall into these stereotypes because they grow up around them and find them to be a comfortable social or status quo to follow. It's a bit discouraging that some people will actually use stereotypes to describe their own sense of identity.
My main point here is that the way to move society past stereotypes and racism, whether it is subtle or blatant, is to raise awareness rather then ignoring it and letting it slide. The N-word is a prime example of something that has become a casual word in its use and definition to many people, it's simply thrown around too much in casual conversation considering its tremendous derogatory connotations. But I'm rambling now, the main point is that children should be told and made aware from an early age what is and isn't true in terms of stereotypes.

I don't ever mean to be racist, especially not here and now since you must be a pretty remarkable person, and a sincere one as well. This has nothing to do with you at all, so don't get offended with what I'm about to say:
Firstly, I agree with your points, but I am conflicted. At my school, this Black kid got a pretty bad score that, in all points deserving he didn't really study for or even paid attention during the whole lecture. He got sent out of the room so we can actually focus on our assignment. I happened to walk after him to my next class and was somewhat not surprised, but quite disappointed to hear him say this, "yo, Mrs. Howard failed my test. What a racist!" or something on that level.
Now, of course this does not apply to everyone of African descent, I'm just saying everybody's got a different perspective and viewpoint from where they live. Hope you have a nice evening!
I hate false stereotypes too. And I completely agree with what Fallout12 said. Not to mention everyone else.

>__< I've met some reeeeally nice people of African descent and a really, silly, shy bestie too. x3 But yeah...There are those that ruin the image a bit though, if you find a 'black' who you can befriend, you tend to look past their color and not judge them for what others of their color may do.
Of course, I've seen some pretty bad fights break out among Hispanics and Caucasians.
ANYWAYS, My main reply to this was suppose to be how you have a lot of aid. D= Another friend of mine was applying to college and financial aid (Everyone has to in florida) and she was denied help even though they are in a huge debt. Financial aid isn't always a loan mind you but a few grants too (free, no string money) but she was denied either a scholarship or something because she was white. That's seriously what they told her. o_o
So, that stereotype I guess amplifies the purity of those wanting to apply themselves and break those horrid images and the whites are kinda...equal and 'rich'. >__<

I semi-agree with you. But you have to remember that not everyone acts the way the media would like to portray them and I'm not just talking about black people it's everyone.
