AirxxxWaterxxxEarthxxxFire Four elements, all maintained in harmony in one singular form; a human. From birth there is one person on Earth who has the power to control every element, they can bend it to their will, control it and make it do the master's bidding. Every hundred years there is a new person who takes over this gift, the old one passing the power on in death. Two hundred years have passed since the old Avatar - Avatar Aang - and now the new Avatar has grown up in devious times.
A young child forced to take the pangs of an adult. The peaceful era has ended, and the new laws enlisted to ensure peace have enraged citizens. People have thrown their weapons into the air, they've grown furious at the many benders who seem to run their country; and their plans to overthrow the government have succeeded. Hope is lost, and now the balance of 'normals' have overthrown the 'freaks'. Times are changing, if you can bend an element you are susceptible to death.
Benders are deemed as animals, stripped of their humanity and left as beasts. They are arrested, beaten and then killed. If one is lucky they are thrown to work as servants, mine workers or weapons to kill other 'scum'.
In times of need people have always looked toward the Avatar, the one who is destined to restore peace. But the Avatar is no where to be found. Instead, the current Avatar is hiding, sitting like a rock, waiting to be pushed or shoved into action.

Upon her entrance in the world her parents had sheltered her, the news traveled to their tribe slowly but sure enough they heard of the worlds events. Both of her parents are non-benders, but each loved their child greatly. They kept her hidden, told her not to bend, to listen and keep quiet. But as she grew older her heart churned with anger, hate towards the world that made her keep herself hidden. It was foretold that the next Avatar would be born from a water tribe, elders often tested the kids with various tests, and it had happened that Mai Lee had passed; the elders of her tribe deciding that she was the Avatar. This fact kept her all the more hidden, and the war between benders and non-benders raged on in the other nations. But soon the non-benders had made their way toward the isolated poles, an army of non-benders going over to the Norther Water Tribe. They seized the city, capturing the remaining water benders and the citizens, this was when Mai Lee was sixteen, and when she watched them take away her mother on a different ship. She is now nineteen, still living on a captive ship which makes her work all day; unbeknownst to the leader that she is the Avatar.
Mai Lee has perfected water bending, she has practiced earth and fire as well but is not extraordinarily well at either of the elements - being able to grasp just a bit more than the basics. Her other strength lies in hand to hand combat, she can put up a fight, but when it comes to hand to hand she is more defensive than offensive. Mai Lee is also very acrobatic, being able to bend and do flips with a breeze.

His father was in the army against the benders, and he was raised with the morals for a 'just world'. BaSing Se was overrun with the same types of people, all non-benders who yearned for 'equal rights', being brought up in this time he had decided he liked the way it was run and would one day want to make sure it changed that way. Taiyou joined the army as soon as he could, the tender age of fifteen, he soon pulled his rank high and became an outstanding general for the army; passing up his father. He then earned the nickname Taiga, for his ferocity in a 'no mercy' policy.
Taiga is extraordinarily skilled in hand to hand combat, this being one of the things that had separated him from the rest of his peers in the army days. He also knows how to handle a bow an arrow, and has basic foreplay of a sword; but his primary weapons are either his fists or a bow and arrow. Taiga's quick on his feet, but is not flexible, if you're able to tie him down it's a good chance that he will stay that way unless he's able to free himself with brute force or someone else frees him. He has no offensive skills, since he is cocky in his way of fighting he feels that there is no need to be offensive.

Her parents warned her not to bend but her brother wouldn't listen to them. Looking up to her brother Damian, she decided to follow him instead. Akita would watch her brother night after night secretly reading about Agnie Kai. Soon, she too was hooked on it as well. They trained hard together and found they were good at it. At the same time, her father taught her about the sword. In the world around them, her father was worried about his little girl not being able to defend herself without bending. Akita realized fire bending and her skills with the sword could become one in the same. When Akita was only 16, her parents were taken away from them. She did all she could to hold her brother back from attacking the guards. It was clear neither Damian nor herself could stand a chance against the guards. At least, not at that time. Over the next three years, she continued to train with her brother as well as continually running from the law. Each year it was getting harder and harder to run and hide.
Akita specializes in medium range attacks with her sword but her favorite moves are to combine her sword moves with her fire bending. She is very good at fire bending but is not so good at close range without her sword. Akita tries to avoid hand to hand combat when she can but when she has to almost always ends up using her bending at some point.

He was even able to find a place where he and his sister could battle out an Agnie Kai without actually hurting themselves or having the battle ending in death. One afternoon when the two were coming back from their Agnie Kai battle, they were just in time to see soldiers taking their parents away who knew fire bending as Damian and his sister did. Damian wanted to jump out of the bushes and fight them all but one look from his mother’s face and he knew he there was no use. They, too, would be captured. Damian was only seventeen at the time.
Damian is a skilled fighter. He prefers fire bending but uses combat when trying to hide his bending skills. When his father was a teacher of fire bending classes, Damian tied being star pupil with his kid sister. When it comes to actual combat, he is alright with a sword but is better at close range using a small knife or classic physical attacks.

She could still remember that day clearly, as if it had just happened mere minutes ago, but it hadn't because four years had already passed since the incident of the Norther Water Tribe raid. Mai could still here hear peoples screams, their begging for their lives as the non-benders attacked. Before the raid she could remember people fleeing, but not many, and the suggestion for the topic had come up for their tribe to hide in the icy tundra; but they knew with that option that none would survive. This was their last choice, be captured and live.
Mai Lee could hear the low cooing of her mothers voice, her warm breath next to her ear, telling her to keep quiet, to be good - and if she did all would be well. But four years later and nothing had changed at all. Mai Lee had been forced onto a ship, watching her mother go onto a different one as they had separated the older from the younger. All the young teens and children had been forced to work, some sent to the main lands, others - like her - kept on the waters where they only light they saw was from small circular windows.
If she was still enough she could feel the ship rock on top of the water, moving from side to side in the waves. Most of everyone on the boat had given up hope, or if they had any they held their tongue about it. Their lives began to go into a 'normal' state, and often the people chatted with each other; thinking that this was how it was going to be for the rest of their lives. Brothers and sisters consoled the youngest ones, telling them stories of past bravery, how Avatar Aang had once made peace in the world and how everyone was equal; but if you were to tell that story while the guards were around it wasn't guaranteed that you would ever be seen again. The guards on her ship were relentless, beating the kids for wrong-doings or for simply telling stories to lay themselves to rest. Their job was to diminish hope, to make it extinct within the younger years, so that if they had children the word hope wouldn't even be passed on. Mai Lee sat up, each person had their own singular cell - except for some siblings who were caged together just to keep the smaller ones quiet. They were fed two times a day, all strategically planned to keep their energy down.
She had assumed that they were to be docking any day now, of course it could have been that same day - but from they way they were blocked off she couldn't see the outside and was unable to determine what the current time was.

Taiyou stood at the government building in BaSing Se, out looking on the town below. It was peaceful, the people were mingling with one another or doing their simple errands; there was not a bad vibration in the whole town, all the people were normal. Taiyou's ears caught onto the sound of someone approaching, but he stood at the base of the balcony still. "General Taiyou, we have word of the ships increments. They should be arriving shortly, upon arrival we will do a full inspection for the Avatar." A small boy had come in, saluting him, a wasted effort since Taiyou didn't acknowledge him till after he was given information.
"Very well, but you need to give me this news when they are at shore. Such information is not useful to me now." It was true that he was slightly harsh, but this was the nicest he was, he was his greatest when his anger flared him. "My apologies, General Taiyou." He could hear the slight strain in the cadets voice, the hope that he wouldn't be reprimanded, and he wouldn't. Taiyou was growing tired, as well as impatient, he didn't want to take all his energy out on such a useless person; it would soon needed to be feed at the upcoming ship.
"Also - General - a messenger hawk has landed on the bottom perch, bringing word of the siege of our neighboring nation." Taiyou had perked up at this news, his head turning ever so slightly, but still faced forward. "And the news?" The cadet had swallowed, taking a small intake of breath before speaking again. "The message brings word that the siege is not going according to plan, the benders have scattered near the outskirts of OmaShu, and it's hard to find them out in the deserted plains." Taiyou thought it over, while looking down upon 'his' people. Often he had thought of going to OmaShu, to help with the resistance, but he had never budged from BaSing Se, to help another General would indeed make the first seem incompetent, which could result in a promotion but if his own city went underway that also meant someone else could come in and take everything from him. "You're dismissed." The sound of the cadets hands smacking onto his sides, as he bowed, could be heard before he turned and his shoes stomped on the floor - signaling his leave.
Taiyou sighed, exhaling greatly as his fists tightened, a small squeak from his leather gloves could be heard. He craved power, absolute control over everything around him and in BaSing Se he had obtained it. All that was left was to squash out the Avatar, the last remaining symbol of hope; if he did that he would be a legend.

The world will never change
Damian watched the ground as he walked along the sandy path. It had been a long time since he had been to the Fire Nation Capitol but he wouldn’t be able to see it today. Since he and his sister had left the Fire Nation, they both made a vow never to go back. Fire benders were hunted like animals there. Their home once a place where they could feel safe was now a place of destruction. Who knew what it looked like now after three years.
His kid sister walked beside him on the path with her head held high. Her excitement for adventure was always annoying and exhausting. He didn’t get it. How could she be so happy when they were outlaws and wanted by the non-bending police? They had been outlaws for three years and always managed to slip out of the government’s grasp. Though, Damian knew better. It was only a matter of time before either one of them was captured and never seen again.
Ba Sing Se came into view and they both agreed it was where they would reside for now. They had been to Ba Sing Se before but left in case the government found out about them. It wasn’t safe to stay in the same place for too long; especially when you were one of the benders wanted by the government officials. However, actually getting into Ba Sing Se would prove to be more difficult than usual. Compared to the last time they had been there, the Ba Sing Se gate was practically covered with non bending guards.
The two fire benders ran to the side of the building and found a sewer passage. It wasn’t that great of a smell but it was better than getting through the front gate. “Why do you think there are so many guards at the gate?” He sister wondered aloud.
“No telling, sis. No telling” Damian answered back. The two finally found an opening that was hidden from the public and easy to exit out of. Still, the two exited with caution. The city was busy with people as it should have been. Ba Sing Se was very popular place, especially with the armed forces.

We have to fight for peace Akita stayed as close as she could to her brother. She looked up to him and always felt safe around him. Ever since her parents were taken by soldiers, she had to look towards her brother for guidance. The two of them walked through the city and eventually through the market. It had been awhile since the last time they had eaten a good meal. The past few days were spent eating crusty old bread and a few sips of water. Damian used his gambling winnings to buy some meat as well as a few bags of water.
Gambling was really the only way to earn money. Getting a job was out of the question because they never stayed in the same place for too long. People laughed and chatted as if the world around them really wasn’t in much trouble. Then again, most of them weren’t benders and the ones that were benders never said a word. It was times like these were silence was actually golden.
Akita and Damian found a spot in an alley where they wouldn’t cause too much attention. As they ate, Akita had to wonder something. “Damian?” She asked her brother. “Do you think the Avatar will rise and bring peace to the world?” Without missing a beat, her brother shook his head. After three years of being on the run, wishing the Avatar would appear, he eventually lost hope and came up with his own theory.
“The Avatar is a myth. Avatar Aang was the last one.” He bit into his meat as if it was casual conversation. “Don’t get your hopes up, little sis.” Akita took another bite but just kept thinking about the Avatar. He had to save them. It was the only way everything would go back to the way it was. Akita and her brother could actually see her parents again. They wouldn’t have to be outlaws anymore. Everyone could live life peacefully again.
It seemed as if Akita was the only one to actually keep a hope up. It wasn’t normal to mention the Avatar in everyday conversation. If a soldier heard someone talking about the Avatar, they would be sent to prison and never seen again. Rumor was they were killed. Other rumors spread saying that they were taken to other cities. The only ones who knew the truth were the soldiers and the victims.
When the food was gone, another few soldiers walked by. Quickly, Damian covered his sister with his long cape and hid the two of them. The soldiers passed without taking even one glance at the two of them. Akita watched them leave and wondered what was with all of the men in Ba Sing Se. For any city, it was strange that there were soldiers everywhere. To her, that could only mean one thing. The Avatar was either in Ba Sing Se or he was on his way. It's the only way

The prisoners had been lined up, and looking at each of them they had appeared to be so broken, so fragile. Good, that is just what I want. Two ships had come, but the first line of prisoners had been lined up in the plaza, the normal and just people had begun to circle the outside; coming to watch the show. The prisoners on the other boat had been filed into a straight line, guards in the front and back, which was leading them to a different area, the governments quarters so that they could be investigated there. All of the people in front of him were in a vertical line, facing him, their shackles were in the front, holding their hands together; but these people didn't need to be held down too tightly, so no ankle ones.
"Attention, benders. I am feeling quite generous at the moment, if you are the Avatar I am going to give you a few seconds to adjust yourself and come forward. If not then I will harshly examine everyone in this group. You will be responsible for any casualties, anyone that his harmed will be on your hands, you will be responsible for any deaths." Taiyou took several paces back and forth, making sure to stare down everyone that had been in the line. But some, most, had not even adverted their gaze from the ground. The other boat's people had started walking, heading off toward the government.
"So? No one is going to speak up?" Taiyou went toward one end, grabbing onto a boys face, his fingers digging into the kids cheeks. "So be it. You shall be f-"
"Mom! Mom!"
Taiyou turned to his side, pushing the boy away and letting him fall down to the ground. How dare someone speak during this trial, a girl at that, a lowly freak girl. "You never speak while I am talking!" Taiyou strutted over, his footsteps striking hard into the ground while his hand hand lifted into the air, arm diagonal from her body; his back hand facing in her direction.
The girl continued to squeal, until he had gotten closer. Then her eyes quickly diverted to him, and they squinted - in anger.
He was a bit taken aback, but his movement was already too steady and quick; thus he did not stop. But he didn't need to.
The girl had stepped out of the way, her back knocking into the person next to her as she swished toward the side. Taiyou's eyes widened, as the girl lifted her hands. The nearby fountain's water had began to bubble and rise, This lowly bender dares to bend in front of me?! He watched her fingers twitch and contort, and it felt as if she was moving at some super human speed while he was reduced to a slower motion. Her arms rose and quickly slashed to the side, the water striking him down. The guards in the plaza had taken action, but the water was still being bent by the ruffian. Her feet allowed her to spin, striking most of the guards that came at her down, and she let the water drop. Taiyou sat at the ground for a moment, feeling defeated, this girl had some how granted herself courage to attack; all these people were to be broken, where did her strength come from?
Quickly he stood back up, pulling out a small sword which was attached to his hip; nothing fancy, but enough to put someone back in their place. He lunged, barely missing her as she quick-stepped backward, her body formed another attack, but this time no water lifted - but ground.

"Come on you trash, line up!" A guard had entered the area where all the cells were kept, telling them to get out and line up, upon doing as told they were shackled at the wrists; but not too tightly it left them with movement. Mai Lee supposed the reason was because they thought they had broken everyone, that no one would try to bend, and they were right to think so. If one looked around, all the prisoners looked pitiful, their hands were in the grace of the spirits.
The guards had led them outside, instructing to line up side by side to start their inspection. Some towns people had come to watch, but Mai Lee hadn't taken much notice of them, or the man that had come over and began pacing back and forth in front of the line; bellowing out orders. She hadn't taken much interest in him either, spending the whole moment ignoring him and looking at the ground. No one in the line had said anything, even as he had grabbed his first victim. But in that moment Mai Lee had looked up, just to see something other than her own feet.
And her earth fell flat. She could see a figure, but from just the back she knew who it was. Everything pulled around her, and Mai forgot just who she was; a prisoner, scum, the Avatar.
"Mom? Mom!" Many women in the line had turned around, but Mai Lee's eyes were locked on only one, and soon her eyes flooded with tears. It was her, it was her mother. They were in the same town, the same universe, and for the first time in three years everything her mother said - that everything would be ok - seemed true. Mai Lee couldn't help but step forward, burning to be with her again. But at that moment she had seen something from the corner of her eye approaching her, and she looked. The man who had been saying things now came toward her, his hand in the air ready to strike, and she grew angry. Angry that even though benders out numbered the normal, they were still shackled down. Angry that this stupid war had kept her and her family from being together.
Mai Lee gritted her teeth and stepped to the side, loose shackles were definitely a bad decision. She lifted her hands into the air, feeling the water from the nearby fountain bend as she controlled it. Mai made it more condensed and she had striked the general, watching him fly back and be knocked down. The guards around her had blown their horns, signaling their own attack, but they weren't lucky either. She quickly spun, knocking them away as well. As soon as she did that the general had gotten back up, pulling out a weapon this time. Mai Lee let the water go, and breathed in, her muscles tightening as she summoned whatever strength was in her, pulling the soil up from the ground. But she didn't even have to knock the general back for him to stop and looked shocked, because as soon as the ground had come up he stopped, his sword in the air as he seemed frozen in time. But Mai Lee didn't stop and wait, her hands formed fists and she propelled them in the air, sending the rock over in his direction, watching him go farther than he did the first time.
Mai ignored him and turned around, "Mom?" She had yelled, but the back of the line was the only thing she could see, the guards that controlled it had already started to quickly escort them away. Mai Lee started to run but stopped, her shackles restricting her movement, growing frustrated she took some more water from the fountain and made it hard into ice, breaking the chain that held them together. "Mom! Mom!" She ran forward, but the guards that she had knocked out of the way had come back to annoy her.
"Get out of my way or die!" Her body heated up as she got angry, hands into fists still as her stance widened a bit. Mai Lee's eyes darted from the guards over to the direction of the other prisoners - who were now gone.
"Damn it!" She flipped forward, her hands touching the pavement in front of her as her legs shot up straight, before coming down. One leg tucked under her as she kept the other one straight. "Breathe." With the one straight leg she had conjured up fire, letting it fall together and hit the ground. Most of the guards scattered, as would anyone when confronted by a flame. Mai Lee shot off once her legs were both down, and she had run straight, moving past some people and going in between houses, still some guards passed her; not getting her first message.
Damn it, damn it, damn it.

The world will never change
Right as Damian and his sister finished eating; he could see a crowd of people starting to move toward one direction. The two walked out of the alley to follow everything and tried to see what all the fuss was about. Up at the front stood an entire line of prisoners chained up and forced to stand in front of a crowd as if to be humiliated. It was the government’s way of putting everyone in line; including everyday citizen. It was how they worked. If they didn't keep everyone in line, the citizens would get it in their head to actually fight back. Damian knew their caption wouldn't want any of that.
Damian grew furious. He hated to see his benders chained up and treated like animals. But when the guard pulled a little kid up, that’s when Akita had to hold her brother back. “If you attack them, they’ll capture us.” Akita whispered. She had a point. If Damian used bending in front of everyone, the guards would attack them, capture them and who knew what would happen to Akita. They would be lucky if they even got to see each other but that was unlikely. Damian had no choice but to remain in the crowd. It was unbelievable that no one else in the crowd was brave enough to do anything.
“Mom! Mom!”
Everyone turned to the girl in the line. Damian tried to look around and see who she was yelling at but he couldn’t see anyone. The guard wanted to beat the girl. Akita had to hold onto her brother even tighter. Damian had never felt so angry since his parents were taken away from them. Finally, the girl on stage just about had it. The fountain close to her erupted and forced the guard off of his feet. Damian couldn’t help but laugh but when the ground erupted he couldn’t believe it.
“It’s the Avatar,” Akita whispered. She took the words out of his mouth. His sister had become so excited about the fact that the avatar was real she was about ready to scream as she nudged her brother. Damian waved his hands at her to calm her down. Avatar or not, a fellow bender was in trouble. Neither one of them could handle it anymore. Damian looked to his sister who nodded in a silent agreement.
The two pushed through the crowd just as the guards were beginning to push back. Akita pulled out her sword from underneath her cloak and swung it at each guard they passed. Her arms swirled the weapon in the air until it lit on fire. This gave Damian the ignition he needed. His fists punched through the air as burst of flames erupted in front of him. The guards back up but tried to fight them off. Swords were flung, nets were casted but Akita and Damian dodged them all but just barely.

We have to fight for peace
Akita twirled in a circle with a forward movement as the flames followed her move. Again, the guards tried to attack but Akita was missing everyone. Though, they were getting closer. The soldiers had fought so many benders they learned to learn their movements. Akita had to act fast. She ran through the guards, slicing the air in front of her. Suddenly, a net landed on top of her. Her knees buckled and her body slammed into the ground.
“Akita!” Damian yelled. Quickly, he pulled out his knife from his belt and stabbed guards as he made his way back to her. The wounds weren’t fatal but they seemed to be enough to hold them back. Damian didn’t have time to untie her. Akita was lifted off the ground and up on Damian’s shoulders. All of the guards were either running after the Avatar or were running after them. Even through the net, Akita could see the guards were running from all directions. There seemed to be too many of them. Damian wouldn’t be able to take them all. Akita was trapped in a net and the Avatar was running away.
“Damian! Put me down! I can run!” But Damian ignored her. They had to find the Avatar and they had to find her fast. Luckily for him, all he had to do was follow the guards running away from them and running towards a girl in blue. That’s when Damian had an idea. It was risky but he had to try it.
“Akita,” Damian yelled as he ran, “I’m going to toss you in the air.” He warned her. At first, Akita didn’t understand. Tossing her in the air would do much unless he had something crazy building up in his mind. “Spiral it up little sis.” Before she could react, Damian threw her into the air and tossed her forward with all of his strength. Akita spun in a spiral motion with her arm pointed forward. Flames twisted around her body, burning the net and setting her free. Her feet landed on the ground and Akita took off at a run. They had to catch up to the Avatar.
“Avatar!” Akita yelled as she saw the girl run. She still couldn’t believe it. After all these years of no sighting, the Avatar was real. She wasn’t a myth and she wasn’t even a guy. The last Avatar to actually be a girl was the Avatar Kioshi of the Earth Kingdom. Damian caught up with his sister and was now running by her side. Akita still wasn’t very happy about being thrown in the air without real notice. “Don’t ever do that to me again, Damian.” Damian smiled and continued to run after the Avatar with Akita.
It's the only way
