Though I love this guild and I've had a lot of good feedback from the people here... it's far too depressing to see 'my dog died' or 'my cat is terminally ill' or 'why do my fish keep dying?' every time I check this guild.
Bye.

You're going to find that anywhere you go if you want to talk/read about animals. At least here the guild is packed with people who not only care, but care enough to educate themselves and are knowledgable about their pets needs. I couldn't survive without this guild because I know if I have a problem, I can come here and ask for help. In fact certain members that I now have on facebook have been able to aid me in urgent situations when the vet that I called was useless. So I don't mind a couple sad threads once in a while. Especially since I know if I ever have sad news, they'll be there for me too.

I agree with Gabrielle_AnimalLuver. Death a part of life that we have to come to terms with, and it is a part of our discussions here. This guild was not created only to share about our animals, but for support and advice as well.

It is good to know that we are all here for each other. When you get a pet, you become part of something bigger, at least, that's how I feel about it.

When winter hits, these things get more and more prominent as air pressure and temperatures and attitudes change with the season. You'll see people without heaters wondering why their fish die, you see cats not being able to regulate their temperature and showing their illness, and dogs slipping on ice and letting a peak at a previously unknown injury. While there is death, it's also learning. You learn the why's and how's through our guild friends, and won't ever make the mistake again. Stay to learn and educate. Even just take a hiatus and filter to the happy threads on depressing days. I remember the Guinea Pig thread, as anyone whose been in the guild regularly for the past couple of years will. Despite the three main participants, we answered questions, asked eachother why our fur baby was doing this or that, and got information from someone who had tried it before. I assure you that you won't find the same type of help from people who have personally done it, will send you a message asking how Fido did after his surgery, or people who genuinely care. I don't know about anyone else, but this guild is the best support system I've found. Once you're a consistent regular and can no longer find your first thread, you'll start to notice the "Patches learned a new trick!" or "I got the puppy!" threads. Hell, as depressing as it sounds, I remember when I posted that my dog that had spent over 9 years of my and hers life running wild, begging for biscuits, or just being a total dork was euthanised. I remember crying for days and making a thread, and when I explained that we got in trouble cause an idiot opened OUR door and my dog had to be put down, not a single person chastised me or my family, and offered their love and support. I know that I said a lot, but leaving won't hurt anyone but yourself.
Bien salud.

Obviously, Lime Kiss, if you want to leave it's up to you.
But the thing is, like they've said, death is a very real part of having a pet. A hard part, and sometimes we need each other to get through it! Especially if the people around us in the real world have the "oh it's just an animal, get another one" mentality, we need to talk to people who understand us, and understand how deeply someone can grieve for a dog or guinea pig or even a fish! Like minded souls are sometimes the only way to get through something like that.
That being said, after a suitable amount of time, a death post will be moved to the Rainbow Bridge anyway, so that we can think about happier things, and so that it has a special place to be if we want to memorialize longer.
On the other hand, if something is DYING, not dead, we often need each other's advice on how to proceed and maybe SAVE that pet. Guild advice should NEVER be taken as substitute for a visit to a competent vet, BUT I think we all realize what a wealth of EXPERIENCE we have here. There is always a chance that someone here knows the answer to something you need because THEY have seen it before. People in here KNOW THEIR STUFF. I think this is the greatest guild in the world. It is up to you, but it is pretty much the only thing that keeps me on Gaia for the most part!!!

I thought you were pretty cool, but flouncing is NEVER cool, no matter the reason.

As I've said, this is a great guild, but right now I need something happier. I'm focusing on my own pets and the life around me. Yes, death is a big part of life, but that doesn't mean I need to read about it every time I check into Gaia. Gaia is a more frivolous part of my life and it doesn't need to bring me down.
Good luck, everyone.
