I took a look at Rascal's xrays on Tuesday. Myself, and two other techs couldn't see anything. Of course that's because we were looking at the BLADDER, the vet checked them on Thursday and pointed out the obvious kidney stones.
Okay, so, that sucks. BUT, it's not a tumor! And the vet doesn't seem too concerned. She didn't say anything about a dissolution diet, she did suggest a renal diet. And she said they're pretty small and it definitely explains the hematuria but so long as he doesn't show symptoms it shouldn't be a problem.
My biggest concern now is leaving him alone. Because, we've done it many time on vacation, leave out food, and go away for 2-3 days at a time. From now on I refuse to leave him at home unless SOMEONE can check on him at least once a day. If those stones get bigger, and there's no way of monitering it besides constant xrays which is not practical or worth constant exposure to radiation. If they do, he could get blocked, and that could kill him within 24hrs.
My brother is talking about moving out, which means there would be no one with him when we go away. My parents don't like having people in the house, they're a bit paranoid about that. But, it's just not happening, I'm not leaving him alone ever again.
Also, his urine was pretty concentrated, so I need to do a better job of keeping him hydrated. His diet is 100% wet food, and he even gets pouches in the mornings now, so, I'm not too sure what else to do. I've set aside an extra water dish in the basement. If his urine is still concentrated next time I test it I'm going to have to start doing fluid therapy on him.
