My mom is a firm believer in declawing. After a loud debate in the middle of the store, I was able to convince her that declawing her wasn't the only way to keep our ridiculously expensive couch intact. So I have to give Piper a scratching board, and nail caps, and keep them trimmed. If she scratches our couch at all, her claws are gone : I was just proud I was able to keep her clawed for an unknown amount of time.

So how do I train her to use her scratching board?

There are cat n** infuses scratching boards, so maybe you could just take some cat n** and rub it all over the board you bought. Just sort of thinking out load lol

Catnip your scratch post. Offer different kinds of posts. Keep the cat away from the couch, if you can afford it, the ssscat works really well to keep cats away from things. Then the nail caps are good for protecting in case the cat does go for the couch, just remember they need replacing every month or so

If you de-claw, you might get more problems with your cat.

I'm so glad it's illegal here.

I agree. Cats know when their defenses are taken away. Wether they care or not depends on the individual cat. They can get nippy, become withdrawn, etc. And, if they were to get out side, and be chased by something that could potentially hurt or eat them, they'll have a hard time getting up to higher ground to get away.

Litterbox issues could develop as well.
But some cats seem to do very well without claws.

It seems to be a success so far. I gave her a board that had a little pocket in the back to put catnip in to make the board scented, then I totally doused the board in a catnip spray I had. It's actually fraying a tiny bit due to how often she uses it. She knows what it's for so all is good.

I love Pet Supplies Plus. We got 15 cans of Before Grain holistic 5.5 oz canned cat food for $15. Not even kidding. Last week they had W.ellness for a dollar. Our house is starting to look like a crazy cat lady, since there are ball toys everywhere, fuzzy mice, the scratch board, an open litter box in the kitchen, and food right by the bathroom as well as a sheepskin blanket for Piper to lay on. She's completely weaned onto hard food and water, she gets about 2 spoonfuls of wet food daily in the mornings. When we leave for school we lock her in the bathroom with 3-5 ball or mouse toys, her sheepskin (which is always in the bathroom), her litter box, her scratch board, and her food and water dish. She can spend the whole day alone without having an accident or scratching anything inappropriate.

We got her a collar today for when she's a little bigger, and it came with a free tag. It'll be a little bit before Piper can fit into her collar, but it's really nice that we got a $10 account for free with her collar, and it's a lifetime guarantee. If it gets damaged they replace it. So for $10 you'll never have to buy more than one pet tag. God I wish I would known that with Kayda, we ended up getting a new tag every year cause they'd get so scratched up. But I'm really excited for that, Piper has really progressed a lot.

She's learning to pounce and, naturally, bites a bit. They're play bites but we're trying to discourage them as best possible. Any ideas? She has a special toy rabbit that she's allowed to wrestle, bite, and kick at her leisure and convenience. It's one of her favorite things. Annabelle of course won't have any of it and if Piper tried to n** at her, Piper will knock her over, hold her down, and give her a thurough lickin'. Pretty cute.

My 12 year old cat is de-clawed and she has no issues at all actually. Her paws are so strong because my mom did it when she was over a year old. If Mickey hits you in the head with her paw she leaves a bruise. She knows how to defend herself very well and even beat the snot out of a my boxer/lab/husky mix. She has no litter box issues at all and she is healthy. But if you take my mom's current cat she has been having issues from it since day one. It just depends on the cat. Some dont care and adapt while others cares and gets depressed from it.

True, it depends on the cat. Why are they de-clawed anyway?

Mickey is de-clawed because at the time we got her we were sleeping on Air mattresses. So we couldnt afford $75 each time if she popped it. I was 12 when we got her de-clawed and at that time I really didnt know much about it so I couldnt stop her. With Jasmine my is currently disable and when she got Jazzy I lived to far to come and clip her nails every week.

I just clip the nails. It's annoying, but I would rather do that instead of declawing, which I think is wrong.

Glad Piper gets to keep her fingers, for the time being, anyway.

How are they liking the BG? I have Sugar on their kibble which we both like a lot, but the acai berry worries me. I also have a coupon for a free can if I buy 4, which would last sugar forever properly stored, lol.

Thy loves it. Both of the girls are very happy with it. They basically got 5 cans of quail and chicken, 5 cans of turkey, and 5 of chicken. They're finishing up a can of blue buffalo spa selects or whatever though. But we usually have 2 cans open at once.

So I'm eating dinner on the couch and Piper climbs up onto the couch into my lap, right? I think it's innocent enough when she takes a little sniff of my food. Then she grabs and tears into a huge tube noodle. It was too big to even fit in her mouth! After I died of laughter and saved the poor noodle, Piper had this look on her face like "who would eat this s**t"

I know, it's so amazing. Especially since they have a counter up front that they don't use so they have coupons right there and a big board with ads for shelters and missing animals. Then right behind the counter they have 2 chameleon cages right up front, and they get soo much attention. I was in there last time and they had this huge board that had little 2-page information sheets on: Why should I spay/neuter? Why is my cat/dog scratching so much and has a lot of dandruff? and other things like that. I seriously make it the only store I actually go to, cause I <3 people who know wtf they're talking about.
