My mom said "We live in a day where the law decides morality instead of morality deciding the law." Thoughts?
Well, that statement might just mean she feel that certain law(s) are unfair in her City/town, state, or of the Federal Gov. If it's a city or town problem,
most likely a city because they tend to be heavily regulated, simply gathering a few supporters and bringing the problem to the mayor. They should be able to fix any quarries.
If it's a state law, then going to your Senator, House Rep., or better yet... The Governor. Note: you will need a large fallowing for something like this.
If it's a federal law that is the problem, then all I have to say it's like your mother saying, "I
Know that
Most people in this country support this law,
But I feel
My Opinion is worth
More then everyone else."
She could also... Just feel that the people making the laws,
politicians, are doing so immorally and/or without moral. To that I just say, you can't have no morals. You may have bad morals... But you can never really have no morals. Even if you go out and about killing people just because it feels fun, you still have morals. Your doing what feels right to you. Although, people might question your morals... It dose not change the fact you still have them, good or bad.
As in the statement before the one above. Your mother is saying that her morals are better and more important then others just like that statement before the one above... I would simply attempt to show here she lives in a large world... One in which the options and morals of one person don't matter to a whole.
Lastly, some laws may be necessary to shape morals. Imagine if we lived in a world with no laws, just morals... Some peoples' morals would command them to be a good and all-around pleasant person. Others, lets just say the will not be nerely as restrained as much as the last one. Point is, both have a right in there government when voting.
Example: 65% of people have something to do with weed, such as using, selling, and trafficking weed. Note, this was before what happened in California and lets not forget... People tend to lie when it comes to this kind of stuff. Who would risk admitting to smoking, selling, or trafficking weed when they could still get arrested. The point is, it people could vote to legalize weed... It "Would" happen, in "Every" stare.
As a government... You need to protect yourself. You also need to protect the people in which you govern over. If they don't feel protected, the government in question will not survive. Just think about it this way...
If 83% of all people (who can vote) of a nation believed you should be able to kill someone once you reached the age of 18, and that person you kill is at/over the age or 35. (Just making the law reasonable-ish) Do you really think the government would pass such a law?
