Hey there, I just joined the guild a few days back, of course I immediately check out the art section because that's what I do. I would normally say I'm a huge art nerd, but I've kinda been going through some stuff that makes me not feel very motivated. I wouldn't call it artists block because it's pretty much everything I don't feel like doing. Any advice to up motivation levels would be nice. smile
Anyways, here's a few things I've drawn:Also, in my sig I've got a request thread link if anyone wants to check it out/lend me a bump, not necessary though. x3

I don't know if this will help you, but I'm inspired by music. I went to see some friends do a show at the town's teen center a month ago that made me want to write or draw a new pic every night. Its still kind of working 3nodding

I'm nearly always listening to music, but I don't have any access to live performances. That sounds great, I wish I had that opportunity, and to draw something new every night sounds nice.
I've got Pandora running mostly, I don't know if it's the wrong music or just not feeling it but it doesn't help, even though I often do listen to music when I draw.

Recently I was in a slump with my writing and it also had nothing to do with block. Because of this I just started drawing a lot (more than usual). Maybe it would help you to find another medium to work with for a little bit? confused You might be burning yourself out. It only took three days of manic drawing to get out of my slump so maybe you should try like... Oh, I dunno. Scrapbooking or something. Go to the art store and buy one of those DIY dream catchers and the like. Or.. Writing 3nodding

HOLY HEART-FAILURE, BATMAN.
You're amazing. That's an understatement. You're....WHOA.
And I get a lot of my ideas from music { like someone's already said } and from nature. Sometimes when I have a really bad lack of inspiration, I'll go to a flowershop or something of that nature. c:
Cemeteries are good, too. XD I've drawn a lot of things based on the weird things that I've seen engraved on headstones.

The images in the op are great! You have talent. 3nodding As for the other stuff, maybe you are a bit depressed at the moment? It might sound strange but have you tried a bit of gentle excercise each day? (I'm talking 30 minutes walking at a pace just fast enough to make you slightly out of breath but not so much you can't have a conversation - not training for the Olympics) That, getting a good night's sleep every night, eating properly and making sure to spend some time with friends regularly helps a lot when I feel flat.
PS Welcome to Burn! xd

Thanks everyone for the compliments, welcomes, and advice! I will definitely take it to heart and try to get out of this slump. ^^;;
I don't exercise everyday (I take a salsaerobics class once a week and bike ride once or twice a week) and I know better than anyone my sleeping pattern is messed up. I'm hoping that I can have some time soon aside from my unrelated job to get out of the house and find something to do to break from this just sitting here doing the same thing.
I would love to do scrapbooking but don't really have a lot to work with...although I have been wanting to do a collage/meme of all my artwork from since I joined gaia/got my tablet.
I guess we'll see, maybe I'll check the papers/google to find any live shows coming up nearby. (I'm so sad I couldn't go to lollapalooza that looked so awesome - but to be honest I've never really gone to a real concert aside from cheezy town festival things and band performances in grade school/high school)
I type a lot. gonk
Thank you again everyone, lots of love and hope that we can all improve and stay out of funks!

Oooh, your coloring is excellent! Whenever I'm in a slump (I don't suggest this, I'm just really weird) I look at amazing art. Like, not just okay, but professional pay-a-million-kay-dollars kind. I take a few mental notes, and sketch.
(And also I draw mermaids. You should have a favorite object to draw that you can go back on if you get depressed.)

I drew a little bit the other day and I zendoodle at work (not really drawing but meh) but still trying to get back into it. Mermaids are fun but the last time I drew one I got a lot of crap for it not being "anatomically correct" which I don't understand because....has anyone ever seen a mermaid in real life? D: I'm pretty sure their anatomy is up to me if it's a mythical creature. /stupidminirantsorry

What helps me get better is doing something different... I was in a writing slump and I watched firefly and now I'm working on a scifi story, did the same with a book, now thinking about a fantacy-like story.
I also played a really artistic video game and well... it helped me think of and art idea that involves the four horsemen, all in an Ironic kind of behavior.
So I always just start reading watching or playing something new, something I may not like, or something that is unique to the point that I want to draw it, or it strikes something up inside me.
a good author that has inspired me my whole life is Kai Meyer. I think he has three trilogies out... only two of them I've read because the other one wasn't translated into English, it's still in German. if you read the Dark reflections trilogy it gives a very nice description on mermaids... I like that version the best.
