Fact: The British Empire at it's largest, was the biggest Empire to have ever existed on Earth. It controlled approximately one quarter of the Earth's Surface! The reason the Empire fell apart in the end, was mainly due to countries seeking independence, although some former countries of the Empire, are still classed as "Common Wealth Nations", and so are technically still at least linked to Britain.

I'm part German if that counts for anything.
Fun Fact!
In Germany, if you invite someone to dinner, it is polite to bring them flowers, except for roses because they are considered a romantic gesture. Unless you were trying to be romantic it's usually best to bring a mixed bouquet or something like that.

Doctor Who, woo-hooo! Coronation Street, meh, only watched it when I really, really didn't want to work on my thesis. And sadly not heard of The Archers, though I bet my mother-in-law has; she's a radio person.
Anyone else a fan of Doctor Who?

Gin became popular in England after the government allowed unlicensed gin production and at the same time imposed a heavy duty on all imported spirits. This created a market for poor-quality grain that was unfit for brewing beer, and thousands of gin-shops sprang up throughout England, a period known as the Gin Craze. By 1740, the production of gin had increased to six times that of beer and because of its price, it became popular with the poor.
Incidentaly this is what I have spent the evening drinking mrgreen
