i feel really bad about something, and i'm wondering if i'm the only one that's had this issue...
obviously i like to draw with my tablet and all, but when people ask me to draw them stuff... i never finish. ever. it's not like i don't care about these people i'm supposed to be drawing for (my friends), it's not like money or g is an issue, i'd love to make them something that they love... but i can't get motivated.
i can't make myself finish a picture for someone if it doesn't get and keep my interest all the way through the picture. and for some reason it never does if it's someone else's idea. : /
even if i sit there and try and make myself it all comes out horrid and i feel like i get artists block. even if i 'finish it' it looks like junk to me, and i'd be ashamed to give it to anybody. i just don't get it. i feel bad for the folks i wanna draw art for... does this ever happen to anyone else? ; _ ;

I find it harder to be interested in drawing for other people, but not to that extent.
Really, I think it's just a case of sucking it up and learning to push past it. Or, making it interesting for yourself. Just because you're drawing someone else's character doesn't mean you can't be inventive and have fun with it.

I get like that at times. I think most people are just this way. They prefer doing something for themselves or work on something that they came up with rather than draw for another. I try to push past that and just do the best I can for the other person that I draw for.

hmm I get the same way, I often slack off when doing commissions, and I hate myself for it, cause I really feel like its cause I'm lazy, but its more I'm easoly distracted. The problem I have with commissions is I can't finish it in only one sitting. Usually my art, or at least the quality I try to give people for my art, takes several sittings before its done. Which in the mean time I often loose interest and want to start something else. Like for instance, someone commissioned me to do a drawing for them, I was motivated like crazy when I did the sketch and line art... now that its time to colour though, I kinda don't feel like picking out the colours and getting all the base colours and shadows and hightlights and all that jazz done... My mind already wants to go to something else, which isen't really good, but its how my mind works. Often I try to tell the personne who commissioned me, were I'm at, and what I'm doing, to avoid them thinking I'm not doing anything in the mean time, but I often take a week off vacation from drawing a commission to work on something I want to colour for fun. Cause I think it kinda comes down to what the others were saying... I don't think I like drawing pictures for other people as much as I like drawing pics for myself... But I think a reason why I like drawing for myself is because it takes away a certain stress factor... If its ugly and looks like hell XD who cares its just for me.... were as if its for someone else.... well thats not really acceptable xd

It's ok, I agree that I think a lot of people have this problem. When I was younger I never finished anything, even my own things, unless I got them done in one sitting which was never. I had a poor attention span and I'd easilly lose interest in everything and anything x.x
Now I pretty much suck it up because I want to get better. I think once you are able to break the mold that says (no this is bad) and do it anyways, however awful it feels, you'll eventually draw it to your liking and that will be the first step to "omg I can finish it, holy crap yes!" haha
Or at least, that is how it was with me <3

I'm pretty sure most artists are guilty of this. Also it is very rarely ever inteentional. When it comes to art its easy to lose motivation for a piece. Hell I have had to force myself through so many commissions before because I'm honestly just not interested in the subject matter. The best I can say is find some way to challenge yourself doing it. At least that way you can feel like your doing something constructive instead of creating something uninspired that you'll ultimately be unhappy with.

I never draw my friends anything. |D Not even for my boyfriend...who I live with.
No one seems to care really, if they really wanted me to draw something for them out of request, they all sorta already know to offer to commission me because I'm hard to motivate. Unless I offer to draw for them. /shrug
I usually take a few days to finish a gaia commission unless I'm really bored. Like....I can't possibly find anything else to distract me.
I'm horrible.
Although I'm getting much better. Going to art school sorta whips the lazy out of you and makes you stick to your deadlines.

It's nothing to be worried about, I don't think. I have that exact same problem. I have tons of images that my friends want to draw for them, but I honestly can't bring myself to do them. So now I just tell them that I'm too busy with other art/school/ etc. It's nothing to be ashamed of o:
btw, I love your signature.

I am the same exact way, I wouldnt mind drawing for other people I just prefer getting artistic freedom rather than being bound to drawing items someone else has created (gaia items/ other's OC's) I can have fun with it if I can design an outfit (found that out randomly xd )
I have forced myself to draw for other people, but I can only do it so often before I get lazy. That and when I do it almost never turns out decent..
