Korvosa - a city built upon an ancient Shoanti pyramid - is at a time of change. King Eodred is married to a woman thirty years his younger, Queen Ileosa, who spends her days in opulance and luxury. The town guard is stretched thin against the depredations of countless petty criminals, cruel low-lifes, and grandiose crime bosses. Pseudodragons chase quasits through the air, catching them for their midnight meals. The royal castle sits atop the great Shoanti step-pyramid, an ancient relic dating back hundreds of years, its founders and legends lost in the purge that drove the barbaric Shoanti from the land. The streets wind and twist, cobblestones lining the roads and stucco buildings topped with shingled roofs. There is something... off about the city of late, but no one can quite put their finger on it.

Each of you, no matter your current place of residence, awakes to find a Harrow card (a card used by the Varisians in fortunetelling) placed somewhere near your most cherished possessions. The Owl card rests atop Bekra's holy symbol, while the Locksmith is sitting in the ammunition case of Jonathan Jones. Fen finds the Paladin card inside his breastplate, Ivellios's rapier has the Vision card pierced onto its blade, and Aeth awakens to find Mr. Dainty Paws playing with the Courtesan, like a cat with a ball.

Scratching his stubbled chin, he looks at the card, and the writing. This meant something had gotten into his room, either by breaking in, or having paid the innkeeper to place it there. Either way, they knew why he was there. If the card was right, then it might be a good lead. If it was a trap, though... He left the thought hanging as he stood, gathering his stuff, taking especially good care of the worn pistol which he slipped into a holster on his belt.

Jonathan would spend the day in the inn, reading if they they any books around, and trying to listen in to the rumors that were going on. That night, though, he'd head out for 3 Lancet Street, his hat pulled low and Henry sitting on his shoulder.

"If there's trouble, you get outta there, ya hear?" He muttered to the bird.

"Hmm?... What could this be now?", asked the half orc upon finding the note. Currently, he wore his dandy nobleman's outfit, consisting of a smooth, scarlet coat with fancy, white embroidery, particularly along the over-sized collar and cuffs. He wore over it a cape, not a cloak, but a cape of red that wrapped over his shoulders. Below he wore smooth, red pants and thick, black boots that traveled up to his knees. On his hands he wore simple, white gloves. But on his head was the most impressive thing of all. A grand chapeau of red, with more white embroidery, complete with a long, white feather.

He spoke with a rather soft voice, with a soft English accent. "A Knight?", he asked himself as he saw the details on the picture. He then flipped it to see what was written on the back.

"Lancet...Sure then," he affirmed to himself. He picked up his long sword and placed it on his belt, fitting the sheathed blade to a small hook and buckling it up. He then placed his freshly shined, black armor into an armor sac and slung it over his shoulder. His golden heater shield draped over it softly to seemingly mark what it was.

He headed out of the inn, feeling well rested, on his way to 3 Lancet St.

Ivellios woke up, having spent quite a night with a female companion he met not too long ago. With a stretch and a yawn, his motors started running, and he quickly dressed up. Putting on his clothes, he went to take his rapier, when he found... a card on the blade. He pulled it off, and read it. "Hmmm... 3 Lancer Street, eh? Alright."

He took his whip and mace, put 'em on his belt, and walked out, to the street, rapier in hand.

User ImageAeth awakens in the shabby, run down old hovel that she calls home to the sounds of Mr. Dainty Paws playing with something that he couldn't bite through. That was rather unusual, in and of itself - typically, the silly creature would tear through his toys in short order, but here it was just gnawing away at a... card? What kind of card could withstand that sort of punishment? Aeth got up, pulling her cloak close to her against the morning chill, and crawled over the the monster, snatching the card away as he tried once again unsuccessfully to snap it in half with his powerful jaws. She turned it over, admiring the artwork and wondering exactly where it came from, and then she saw the writing. Her heart stopped for a moment... Had Lamm found her? No... no... he'd likely have killed her in her sleep if that was the case. So, whoever this was... they must be something interesting. She held the card to her lips, lost in thought, ignoring Mr. Dainty Paws's attempts at swiping the card back from her. "Well, Mr. Dainty Paws, looks like we've got somewhere to be this afternoon. But, first, let's get some breakfast. I'm hungry."

She ducked out of the dilapidated building, making her way towards the local vendors. She ducked underneath a leaking pipe for a moment, getting a chill splash of water to help clean her up. Mr. Dainty Paws drank a bit from the water and rushed to catch up. Poking her head out around the corner of the alleyway, she eyed the vendors on the street, looking for a decent mark. She ducked along in the shadows, moving quietly while Mr. Dainty Paws crept along the wall. When the opportunity presented itself, she grabbed a loaf of bread from the vendor and high tailed it out of there, happy to have something to ease her raging stomach.

As she polished off the onion loaf (blech, but beggars - or thieves - couldn't be choosers...), she reviewed the card. Lancet Street... Did she know anything about Lancet Street?

{DM - Do I know anything about Lancet Street, being a native of the area?}

Since she's no longer exactly welcome at the Temple of Gorum since she chose to worship Faern, Bekra has been staying with her sister, Jamyra. It's been working out okay, but lately she's gotten the impression that Jamyra and her husband would really prefer it if Bekra got her own place. She'd been intending to do something about that today when she saw the card.

"What's an Owl doing in here?" Bekra muses aloud to herself, contemplating it as she pulls her golden hair up and out of her face. "An odd thing, that." The writing is even odder still, but Bekra has never been one to look askance at a chance like this.

She spends the morning watching her sister's young daughter so Jamyra can get things done, and then the afternoon sharpening her khopesh and polishing her red and gold scale mail. After all, she is the only representative of the great god Faern in the city, so she has to make a good impression.

Bekra arrives at 3 Lancet Street precisely at sunset, having forgotten to look for a new place to live.

{Okay. Knowledge: Local first (+5 bonus) and if that doesn't help, Diplomacy (+2 bonus) with the second die roll.}

Edit: I'm gonna save you the trouble of adjudicating - I don't know s**t, and I don't learn s**t.

Fen Blackstride
He headed out of the inn, feeling well rested, on his way to 3 Lancet St.

Fen arrives at the address a full twelve hours early, having headed directly there in the morning, rather than aiming to arrive at sunset. The address is a house, which is currently locked. Heavy curtains block the windows, and it sits as silent as a grave.

Jonathan Jones
Jonathan would spend the day in the inn, reading if they they any books around, and trying to listen in to the rumors that were going on. That night, though, he'd head out for 3 Lancet Street, his hat pulled low and Henry sitting on his shoulder.

"If there's trouble, you get outta there, ya hear?" He muttered to the bird.

There are some rumors floating around about a witch cursing King Eodred, who has been getting sicker lately, but they're dismissed as the tales of a drunk. One of the patrons at your inn complains about the mistreatment he received at the hands of some guards, particularly an inebriated Watch Sergeant by the name of Grau and some other soldiers. And the crazy old drunk in the corner, the one that the bartender refers to as "Mad Bill," says he saw little grey men roaming around in the dead of night, abducting folks for some sort of godsforsaken business.

Aeth
As she polished off the onion loaf (blech, but beggars - or thieves - couldn't be choosers...), she reviewed the card. Lancet Street... Did she know anything about Lancet Street?

She didn't know anything in particular about Lancet Street. It would likely even take some time to find it, considering how turned around she was feeling today.

Ivellios
Ivellios woke up, having spent quite a night with a female companion he met not too long ago. With a stretch and a yawn, his motors started running, and he quickly dressed up. Putting on his clothes, he went to take his rapier, when he found... a card on the blade. He pulled it off, and read it. "Hmmm... 3 Lancer Street, eh? Alright."

He took his whip and mace, put 'em on his belt, and walked out, to the street, rapier in hand.

The comely lass started to shift in the bed as you dressed, turning to look at you through matted, disheveled hair. "Hey, baby. You weren't just gonna leave a girl without saying 'goodbye,' were ya?"

Bekra
She spends the morning watching her sister's young daughter so Jamyra can get things done, and then the afternoon sharpening her khopesh and polishing her red and gold scale mail. After all, she is the only representative of the great god Faern in the city, so she has to make a good impression.

Bekra arrives at 3 Lancet Street precisely at sunset, having forgotten to look for a new place to live.

While Jamyra is glad to have the babysitter, she does get rather frustrated that you spend all day polishing your armor, and does her best to let it be known in a passive agressive manner.

{My plan is to allow those of you who might want to do something to do so before arriving at the house, particularly Fen, since he headed right there really early. Who wants to get to the place first (at least, there first at around sunset)? Who wants to get there last?

{Let's see if Bekra notices her passive/aggressive sister, and then I'll post accordingly. A 19 means she did notice.}

Bekra actually leaves a little before she needs to, to get away from Jamyra's nagging. I mean, sure, there were other things she could have done rather than polish her armor, but Jamyra doesn't understand her fervor for her god. And she did spend the whole morning--and part of the afternoon--watching Desla, after all. Bekra really should have remembered to look for her own place.

Bekra takes her time getting to Lancet Street.

{She is precisely on time. I don't care about being first or last, as long as she arrives at the correct time.}

If the DM wishes Fen to get there 12 hours early then he does indeed get there 12 hours early. He'll merely get acquainted with the area, still keeping his most cherished armor in its bag. There was no reason to look imposing in the public eye. Besides, he didn't even know what was going on yet other than the presumptuous letter which may or may not have anything to do with him.
