@ Mayonaka Haruka: I think you might have been a little confused to the event that happen... like Mayrin pointed out, the tsunami happened as a result of the earthquake which was caused by the movement of tectonic plates. Tectonic plates are several plates of crust that make up the planets outer shell. Its what makes the ground we stand on, and the the sea floor... These tectonic plates are not all equaly placed.... some tectonic plates push against others, and some push down into the magma of the earths core, and some push upwards.

The rocky mountains are actually a result of two tectonic plates pushing up and down against one and another. And even the shiftment of the continents was created this way, it was theorized that all the continents (europe, asia, north south america, austalia, africa) were once merged together and existed as one big chunk of land, but over millions of years, as the tectonic plates shifted, pieces of the land broke off, to create the continents we now have... But the planet isen't done moving... in fact it will never be done moving. And what we do to it is somewhat irrelevant to how the plates moved beneath us.
So I just wanted to explain that more in detail, just so you had a better understanding of how the tectonic plates worked : 3
