TEETH. I know many people hate drawing them, but they are an important thing to know how to draw. I think the mistake a lot of people make is that they make these dark lines between the teeth, and it ends up looking silly! Draw the teeth how they are in the picture and they will look great!

Portrait Study
Hello there! This thread is dedicated to portrait studies! Each week I will post a new photograph for you to observe and draw. It could be a man, woman, child, older person, any portrait.
I will try to use pictures with color in the future, and provide you guys with both color and black and white copies, so you can choose between the two.
If you complete a study, please post it here so we can see it! Everyone can help each other in order to improve. If you are having trouble, you can post a WIP or ask questions. The more often you practice, the better you'll get!
Both Digital and Traditional Mediums are welcome. Try your best!!

Tips:
1. Draw what you see. This sounds simple enough, but it is a very important thing to keep in mind. Most people, when drawing portraits tend to draw what they think a person looks like. They draw what they think an eye looks like, a football. You have to look at the picture and really observe the shapes and lines to get it right!
2. When you draw it is important to get the correct proportions down first before going into detail. Imagine you are drawing a person, and after drawing the head shape, you go straight into eye shapes and eye details without doing anything else. Then when you continue, you realize that the eye is much too high. This could have been avoided if you had drawn out the rough placement of major shapes first, and checked out the proportions.
3. Don't be afraid to go dark! Drawings with light shadows look weak. Don't be afraid to really push the values! (but of course make sure that all the shapes and general layout are correct before pressing down too hard on your pencil).
4. Use a broad brush first, then taper the size. This applies mainly to digital artists (unless there are painters out there). Using a large brush makes everything seem cleaner. If you use a small brush, the picture tends to look stringy and messy. Large brushes are good for blocking out the major shapes as well.
5. Flip your picture. I'm sure most of you have heard this, but if you flip your picture, it is easier to see mistakes and inconsistencies.
6. Practice! duhhh.

Cool! You definitely got most of the important shapes down! The more you practice the better you get, I totally understand what you mean by "getting back into the flow" lol
I still have to do mine xP Been really busy last weekend. Homework, getting my college stuff together :/

I think I'll update this with new pictures on Fridays, seems like a good time, its the end of the weekdays and the start of the weekend!
