ok does anyone besides my marhcing band do this? when the next year comes, all the freshman/rookie band and guard members are matched up with an older guard or band member so the more experianced one can help the other one. but the thing is its not just one new person its like a group of five kids. and its the not section leaders either. its a weird thing that my school does. so i was wondering who else does this sort of thing?

We have freshman ownership...
Anyone that's not a freshman pics a freshman as a slave. Although it's not really a slave type thing... Your freshman does stuff for you and you do stuff for your freshman... And when you graduate, you give your freshman slave a pair of your pants.

We do dorta of. You can choose to take a freshman and show them around if you so desire. That didn't work to well with mine. I disowned him.

My director is thinking of making us do that with eighth graders at drum camp this year. We're already friendly anyhow, I don't see why we need to!

My band does that. The upperclassmen all get paired up with a freshman. The upperclassmen give the freshmen some sort of small gift at the end of band camp and like help them out during band camp. Then after that, a lot of them don't talk, but my "sister" (who graduated last year crying ) and I are still friends.

My band didn't do that last year...but we sorta got into groups the first night, so eventually we were grouped with upperclassmen. We did activities and stuff, so we got to know some people better. Oh yeah, my sister was in marching band, but she's going to college next year... sweatdrop ... blaugh

Yeah, our band does it all right. We didn't this year though due to a change in grades entering the band.

We do that. All upperclassmen get paired with an underclassmen and you exchange gifts every friday(football games). Like on friday you get your older sister something and the next one they get you something.

we didn't do that in our band. although the band camp before my 11th grade year we had these activities where you were with your grade and we competed against eachother, kinda a way to get people to know each other better.

In our band, the upperclassmen "adopt" freshmen. Obviously, not all freshmen get adopted (though you can adopt more then one freshman if you're in more then one band class) and the freshman who are adopted have their lives easier than the other freshmen. If you're the freshman who is adopted by the drum majors, you are "The Freshman." And..yeah! Heh...sophmores aren't supposed to adopt freshmen unless they're their siblings. I love having my own freshman! xd

xD I wish my band did this. I kind of attatched myself to an upperclassman or two (even called on of them Sister), but it's not something we officially do. Wish it was though.
