Howdy fellow artists! Well, I recently started a joint shop and so far I've only gotten 3 requests.... I think it may be because my art is overpriced. I only make full color full bodies... just because that's what I'd want for 200k.
My art is like this:

You can click them for the full sized pics.
Your honest opinions please. Am I overpricing my art?

Hmm I think it could be that people think it looks like your art is just a 'lineart' over a real picture.

indeed.
Like you are using 'references' image - 'so much' , taking just the pose of the real pic itself. Not like constructing or building the whole body and then, starting to draw the clothes and so on. Something that is not so "appealing" for many customers, well maybe nobody that I know.

*moreover they will be against that - using just the "lines f the exterior" and that`s all.

if that not the case, and you do really draw "everything" just with simple and normal shapes, I must apologize.

BTW be sure and not uneasy about your stroke of the ñines, is not so appealing the 10 short lines as lineart, is just a no no, up to some point.
1 firm or 2 lines are enough,if you are going to lineart >_> and not shading.

I don't think so hun, I just think that not a lot of people are willing to spend that much on art, great or not. You're definitely worth it!

For me, I wouldn't want to buy art from someone that I can physically identify what reference images were eyeballed/used to create said art. :/ I'm sorry, but that's kinda sad when I KNOW what image you took some of these poses from... sweatdrop

The fourth one, in particular, is referenced after a video game character image that I used to have saved when I was really big into KoF. >.>;

Using images for pose referencing is fine... but eyeballing is not.

Are you guys accusing me of tracing real pictures?!
I WOULD NEVER TRACE. I THINK IT'S SICK TO TRACE SOMETHING AND TRY TO SELL IT.

I don't even know what the hell your talking about. The only video games I play are Super Mario 64 and the Sims. what the hell is KoF?

I thought this was a place for artists to be appreciated, not accused of something so disgusting and heinous.

My apologies. I was wrong. It looked a lot like an image of Kyo Kusanagi..

HOWEVER, I was corrected in finding it was actually Criss Angel. :3 Actually, two of your images are...

Now, don't get mad at us, you are asking us the reason for why you aren't selling as much as you would like to.

The problem is, which others already pointing out, the use of reference pictures, and to the extend you use them. Everybody can see there was a reference used. And even so much, that in picture four, where the male you drew, is wearing shoe outlines, even though the avatar you drew it after was wearing a white body dye and no shoes. or maybe it did wear shoes, and you just didn't bother to draw in laces, soles, stitches . . .

ANYWAY. The point is, USING REFERENCES IS NOT A BAD THING.
A lot of artists use photo references to create a drawing, landscape, etcetera.
but to what extend, that is where the problem lies.

very Yoda there.

you use a reference picture, and I'm not saying you're tracing it, but you sketch the basic outline of the reference pictures used, add the items of the avatar on it and VOILA. you have drawn a picture. But the lines are messy and shaky and there is no feeling or personal touch, style, mojo, whatever you want to call it, to your drawings.

it's very basic, it's very simple, and it's probably how 2/3 of the artists on gaia started out.

But the next step that you should take, is after drawing the sketch of the reference, take the reference out. Get it of your layers, or documents and redraw the sketch. thicken the lines, smooth out corners, add or remove certain lines. DRAW HOW YOU SEE A BODY. Then, add the clothes to it. And think of what those clothes do to a body. Picture number two, the girl is wearing an almost corset like bodice, so boobs shouldn't be hanging like a pair of oranges downwards, instead, they're pushed up, and not visible under the bodice.

Wow. That's pretty terrible. Just wow.

EDIT: I'd also like to point out that even if the lines weren't traced (c'mon now, we're not naive. The chance you just "happened" to draw your drawing the same size/proportions?), the lines are sloppy, have little to no dynamic line value and the colouring isn't very good either (every picture has at least one example of where the colouring went out of the lines).

I'd pay...maybe 50 gold for it.

i think everyone in here has said what needed to be said, but honestly i wouldn't buy art from you.

i mean common o__o||| the way your lines are its kinda obvious you trace stare

What everyone is saying, I also agree with, but with one little side note...

Using a reference to trace or eyeball is fine for practice pieces... I use google model pictures for quick sketches and rough drawings to loosen up my hand before I draw sometimes, but... i do not use them in my final pieces.

Now a site that's designed to help you with anatomy...and has reference pictures that you could use from now on is...

http://www.posemaniacs.com/

But a good idea is to link your reference image from now on...

I love this site cause it has this potion that just throws you poses for like 10 seconds at a time... >:3 It's awesome!

I'm going to jump in here real quick. June, yes this guild is tailored to support artists and art connoisseurs, however if you want our respect you'll need to be willing to take criticism, and admit when you mess up and be willing to take steps to improve as an artist. Especially if other artists bring up legitimate or incredibly convincing evidence against you. If for some reason we're wrong and it really is coincidental then awesome, let the accusation roll of your shoulders and make an effort. Art is unfortunately very vulnerable to others opinions. That being said I'm locking this thread, as I think everyone could have handled the situation better, and I don't want this to become a shining example of how the guild conducts itself. Remember guys, no drama. We don't do drama here.
