VSC_Hearts CooCoo45 AAH I heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart heart SKINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i have noticed that they dont really replay episode till late night around 11ish, to aviod children from watching im guessing. Smart idea, great show, and if they take it off the air i will DIE! What about it draws you in? Just wondering. I mean, I find it interesting but probably for not the same reason as you. Lol.
Well in SOME ways it is like an actual teenagers life with all the drinking and partying. Just not some bs show. I will admit this show is to like an extreme, like i dont know anyone who takes pills. Also im a teenager myself and i love it when i can relate to the show lol |

VSC_Hearts SuchSweetSadism It seems like a glamorization of drugs and sex for kids. Not the best message. Either it will continue because it's ratings will be high or they'll stop it because it's pretty smutty, although television hasn't been the most conservative. I'm a little conflicted because I generally don't like censorship but this is like marketed to tweenies it seems and that's a little disconcerting. I thought the same thing. ._. My mother saw it the other day and told me it was garbage. Lol so, not quite sure how to take it.
I could see that being a mother's opinion. It's really edgy I'll say that. I only watched up until the first break of what AZN posted and I didn't feel like I could watch the rest. I'm eighteen, not a virgin, had a relationship for 3 years with someone older than me by 2 years since sophomore year of HS... we actually broke up recently. I've done a couple of drugs, drinking included.
In no way does this give me bragging rights, I don't condone drugs or sex. I do condone responsibility. I do condone skepticism. I do condone critical thinking. I do condone safety. Sure I can relate. Hell it's been more or less eighteen months since I've been in HS myself.
And even with my ability to relate to what seems to be the plot of the show;
I wouldn't glorify it. As far as what MTV's saying it seems like yeah, viewers should be responsible. Which is why I'm conflicted because I don't like censorship. George Carlin was my idol and I nearly cried when he died (especially because I planned to see him when he came close to NY again or even NJ).
But also MTV is not that great of a network, as far something where parenting tends to be concerned. They have shows like 16 and pregnant. Teen Mom and Teen Mom 2. That show was just such a hit. I've seen an episode of 16 however. It was mostly a white girl in a trailer park-esque (I don't remember specifically) setting. Doesn't seem like it's too idolizing so credit where it's due. Most of the girls on the show do realize they are too immature to raise a baby.
There are two shows I've seen on there that aren't so bad like this one where they get obese people to donate their summers before they start college and try to lose weight. I watched one entire episode and it was great. An italian kid who really wanted to be a chef and saw his family had something not very short of an addiction to food realized "Hey... I don't want to be fat. Especially not when I start college. Even if my passion IS food." Which was really cool.
Then they had that program where Highschoolers are supposed to say things like apologies or issues on their mind with their peers and come together. I didn't see any of that but that seemed to be the idea of it. I haven't even heard any more since I first saw it on like my tv's guide so maybe it was a flop.
Which leads me to how MTV is saying they're addressing issues kids face with in the "real-world." It's hard to consider someone who isn't legally adult in the real world. Their issues aren't really that significant until they're faced with drugs and sex, and yes these are the things that some teenagers are faced with. So they should be educated appropriately. In a lot of ways they shouldn't even have to be confronted with these things. Our bodies are still stuck in an historic age. We aren't as mature as our hormones want us to be. Yet it's simple biology. We are going to explore sexuality, and our senses to include drugs. We should be safe and educated.
It seems that this show's message is a little dangerous. Sure their show is on late. But who watches MTV the most? It's a lot of tweenies and teens. Eleven o clock isn't even all that late for a lot of kids. Besides there's other ways to watch television that I'm sure kids are aware of, so how difficult is it? Oh and parental controls - please adults usually are far behind what their kids know about programming.
I do feel a need to watch a little more before I judge it so much but that's what I got from it. But I did read an article about it, I forgot where cause I'm constantly jumping around, I feel like it was the nytimes though, where it was dubbed 'porn for kids' and compared to Jersey Shore. Although from what I see the writing looks better than the crap from Jersey Shore.
To it's credit I did see a scene from I don't know which episode where this guy was naked about to take a shower and this bum is sleeping in his bathtub. The guy gets upset and tries to throw the bum out and the bum ends up throwing the guy out, still naked, and tells him to come back when his calm because he's a "violent little dude."
Was a little funny.
I've said a lot... so tl;dr and grossly simplified from everything I just said.
The show is very edgy. MTV needs to also be responsible considering who their viewers tend to be. Demographics, c'mon! |
