Gambling

Out of pure curiosity, what are your positions on gambling? And I mean stuff like blackjack, poker, slot machines, horse races, etc., not gambling on things that are already illegal. Is it a sin, or is it not? Again, I'm posting this just because I'm curious. I haven't taken a side on the issue, so I wont be offended by anything you say.

I'm not a fan of it.
Some of my family members are addicted to gambling I have seen it destroy families and trust.

I only think that it is a sin if you let it control your life. But if you know when to stop and you don't blow your money on it every chance you get then it's alright I guess.

Heck I'll buy a lottery ticket for the fun of it, no big deal.
But i will not go to a casino.

I agree with Test. If you stop before you get yourself into a pickle(and not a picklejar, mind you)and you make sure you don't get addicted, nor let it get out of hand and control your life, then it's okay. And if you don't bet a lot of money, or your house or car or something.
Because it can lead to very bad things.

i like the game, i think you should just play the games with like crakers or something and not money hah hah. i like blackjack i'm okay at it, and its a fun game, but thats all i see it as a fun game, not much of a i have to go to a casino now type of thing. i don't think it should be taken seriously. heck the only reason i would go to a casino is for the food lol

This is so odd because I went gambling for the first time Saterday. I personally believe it should be viewed like drinking alcohol. It's fine as long as it's not in excess and you don't start to put it before other things. You must always limit yourself. Plus if you don't agree with it then just don't do it.

Now when it comes to scripture it neither says gambling is good or bad. The few instances in which it talks about it is when there was a casting of lots, like when he gaurds were seeing whom would take Jesus' clothes. Yet casting lots wasn't always gambling, an example of it not being used to gamble was when the apostles casted lots to determine who would take Judas' place. The reason behind them using lots for that is because during that time period people believed that if you casted lots to determine something it was left up to fate. Thus the choice was chosen by God since man had nothing to do with it.

I personally don't believe you should gamble your money away even for the sake of winning more money. No matter how much it is, there is always a higher chance of losing your money as opposed to winning money.

Why not give that money you spend gambling to the Lord. He can increase it as much as he wants to.

I prefer not to gamble, it's neither fun nor is it worth the risk of losing money my family and other families could be helped with.

It's good to be curious about many things especially things regarding your walk with the Lord and what activities may draw you closer or pull you away.

Have you talked to your pastor/preacher about this question? Someone with much knowledge of the bible as well as a strong Christian will be able to help you figure this out.
