Basic Information
The weapon essentially uses detachable 6.5mm grendel polygonal 1 : 8.75 inch (22.225mm) 5 groove righthand twist barrels, in various barrel lengths of 10.5 inches, 16.5 inches, 20.5 inches, and 24.5 inches. Becuase of the polygonal rifling, the weapon still achieves roughly the same velocity as a smoothbore barrel while imparting the same amount of rifling as a traditionally rifled barrel, by having a smooth surface that both reduces the friction of the barrel against the round and that allows the gases to escape properly and by the actual shape of the barrel imparting the rifling.
Becuase of the polygonal barrel, the accuracy and power of the barrels are greatly improved over traditional "cut" barrels. The reliability of the barrel is somewhat higher as well, as the metal was never cut and therefore never suffered the similar stress fractures.
The barrels are made out of stainless steel and are, quite redundantly chrome plated.
The weapon essentially is an XM8 firing system, using the same liberal use of plastics and composites that the XM8 uses, however, adapted to an HK416 layout. While the same shape and over-all size as an HK416, the weapon is slightly lighter, as it is made out of different materials (or at least different proportions). The weapon as well incorporates a belt fed upper piece, allowing the weapon to transform from a "magazine" fed weapon to a "belt fed" weapon in a few short moments, much like the HK 21 and Ares shrike, although the M16, AR-10, and even LA81 have been known to use belts of ammunition.
While ordinarily an individual would need to lift up the upper receiver and press a button to change from magazine to belt fed, instead the weapon incorporates and external sliding mechanism which is capable of pushing down said button with a simple stroke of the hand. This is virtually the same as any ordinary system, however, a piece is made openly available for quicker transaction.
Various production methods are put into place to keep the weapon relatively cheap. While it is possible that such production methods may be revealed, due to the discretion of possibly patenting/copyright issues, this will not be released.
The weapon also incorporates a standard hydraulic recoil buffer, similar to the one found in the M249 and M240 styled weapons. While they lower the rate of fire somewhat, the rate of fire of the weapon is already relatively low, reducing the felt effects of the RPM reduction. This recoil buffer, while it does not completely eliminate recoil, drastically reduces it, adds little weight to the weapon, is relatively inexpensive and basically increases the capability of the weapon as a whole.
The weapon also incorporates impact gel recoil pads in the stock and handgrip. This is used as well to reduce the felt effects of recoil, and can be used to reduce any form of discomfort associated with it.
