Background: We are a 2a band and total about 70ish people. We have field season, then parade season. During parade season, the percussion and guard have it's own indoor seasons. They perform at the parades as well as seperate competitions of thier own.Horns (the band) are allowed to double into these seasons and learn the new skills of percussion and/or color guard.
In our area each year there are Honor Band auditions. This is where students from across the valley audition to perform with each other in a concert setting and at some fun gig (this year would be Disneyland)
The Issue: I am doubling this year, along with three other girls from band, into colorguard, and I have actually had fun while learning the basic stuff. However today the band was told by our dorector that if you are doubling into anything (percussion or guard) then u MUST audition for honor band. I had no intent on auditioning since my skill on the clarinet is not even a fraction of that needed to make the band. Nobody who is being forced to audition wants to.
The Options: I audition, and be allowed into colorguard with no hostilities. OR I don't audition, and defy my band director's orders.
