Hot Topic always seems to be a very delicate topic for... well... just about anyone, for some reason. sweatdrop So I wanted to know what everyone here thinks.

When I go to J fashion communities they are always down on Hot Topic. Yet... Hot Topic is one of the few places in the US that sells clothes that actually fit into many J fashion catagories, including lolita. Hot Topic even sells Japanese fashion magazines (Imported and in japanese). It sells FRUiTS, KERA, Cure, etc. And in the latest issue of Cure (Remember this magazine is japan based) there is an article about Hot Topic.

Now I have the following questions you can choose to or not to answer. Whichever Qs you please...
What are your views on Hot Topic and J fashion (Together, not seperately)?
Do you believe that people that shop at Hot Topic are not true J fashionists?
Do you believe the lolita style clothes at HT are close, or not close to actual lolita fashion?

Oh, and for refrence...

Though I'll readily admit these models have no idea how to wear these clothes properly sweatdrop I've never cared for the HT models. *sigh*

I think that HT has some really good loli-style clothing^^ Some of which even reminds me of Mana-Sama's clothes line^^ I have one shirt I got there that's really a victorian loli style, and I LOVE it... but It must be handwashed... I don't care really, I'm willing to do that
Anyway... It's a good american source for loli girls

Actually, the Lolita-style clothes at Hot Topic are complete crap. There aren't even any petticoats to wear with the skirts! The corsets have the worst "boning", if you can even call it that, I have ever seen. I admit, I do like some of the clothes there, but they're so poorly made that they fall apart quickly.

That's why it's rumored that Mana onced sued Hot Topic for stealing his designs for Moi-meme-Moitie. Although, it's a rumor that's difficult to believe. And buying Lolita-style clothing isn't worth it if it's from Hot Topic because of it's poor quality.

i'm glad that HotTopic has some lolita things, but just last year and a few years earlier HotTopic carried alot of mainstream styles. And that upset me greatly! I just wanted the hottopic i remember when i was younger, where only punks and goths shopped there. Not preps and trendies shopping there. i mean i went to buy something and one girl was wearing a polo shirt from aeropastle....and she was working there! i know becoming mainstream will get them more money, but it upsets me when everyone dresses alike! and the people who have woren that style for years before it become popular get called posers. like my glasses are thick black plastic glasses. i've worn them since i was 13. WAY before emo was popular and people started wearing black thick rimmed glasses. And the kids in my school, who are "emo" are calling me a poser...... *sighs* thats my rant for today.....

Some of it good, some of it, no.

I don't think if you like something loli-style from Hot Topic that's a big issue or you're a lower class of Lolita or something. I have the blouse in the second link.. But if you have an entirely or near entirely Hot Topic based wardrobe that could be a problem.

I think the biggest issue is the older Lolita fearing the emergence of Mall Goth Lolis.

And yes, hottopic.com models are some of the worse that ever existed.

The Lolita clothes from Hot Topic are designed specifically with american Lolita's in mind espically people newer to the style, no they don't sell panniers for the dresses however they aren't designed for them.
What I find funny here is many of you are willing to bash HT all they do is bring you the clothing, the people you should be mad at with the issuse of 'poser' this or that are the kids who only buy it because the store sells it... like the hollister kids, you can't blame wal-mart becasue millions of people shop there everyday right?
The problem you have is with the girl who was a skater last week, all out punk before that, a cowgirl last year, and a prep part time. Not the stores that are honestly trying to bring people who used to be considered as the rare oddity what they are looking for.

I can tell you right now, the crew here at the LS do have a Tokyo Doll line dress from HT the School girl (Tsu) and Pocket dress (Mae) to be exact, they both look incredible on the both of us (espically tsu's) and if you don't know it's HT you can't tell it's not cosmates, yin's, or f+f. And they aren't crap or poorly made, yea they are layered perfect to the style BTSSB or Meta or Moi, they are MEANT to be toned down versions of the dresses, and just becaue they aren't your peticular style in them isn't enough reason to bash them. They don't say EGL dresses, just Lolita, meaning base style, not sweet, not elegant, not goth, just Lolita.

Mind you yea this is backlash from posts all over the place, not just here.
However how many people say they hate Ht becasue it's cool to hate HT? Or becasue they heard real loli's don't shop there?
As my final note, the mana is sueing so and so was a rumor made by a HT hater back when the line was announced publically. After all if HT was being sued by someone it would be in the financial reports (and I don't Mana your local papers FR's I mean stock market's)

Personally I think people should appreciate what HT is trying to do, hating them just becasue they don't refuse to sell certain clothes to posers, is just pointless.

Maeanalda, Thank you... and mangacatgirl, I also have not had problems with my clothing, I even walked through a bunch of thorn switches(un-intetionally of coarse) and my stocking, skirt, and blouse are still in wonderful condition

I don't mind Hot Topic, it does bug me how mainstream it has come around my house, but where else am i going to buy the clothes i need for my loli-based outfits.

I just become annoyed when girls will come to school dressed in the HT Lolita fashion, and than bash on Mana when they see pictures of him.

The dresses are cute, not frilly like my style, and i have had one shirt come undone, but beggers can't be choosers.

I'm the only one at my school that wears loli-clothes, HT or not. One of my best friends wears lolita clothes but doesn't go to my school. I've never met any poser lolitas. That would be annoying.

I only have boots, three screen-T's and soon to be leggings, and a corset. Other than that, i prefer to have something differnt and more personal from all the HT shoppers in my school. I didn't even know there could be poser lolitas. sweatdrop
