Anybody have some tips for me? It was really humid today, so I couldn't breathe at all...I had to drop out of our run (we breathe in for four and out for eight while running), and I've never done that before. It seems like taking my inhaler beforehand hasn't been helping much, either, and I have to use it repeatedly during rehearsal. It's getting really annoying, and I hate the fact that I had to drop out of the run- whenever I have to sit out on anything, it's horrible.
But I'm just going on and on now. So, tips? Should I take two puffs of my inhaler before practice instead of one, or something?

If I were you, I would ask your parents to go to your Asthma doctor and ask him for a medicine (such as Advair), but if you can't go to one, two puffs before hand SHOULD work. Hope you figure it out

I have borderline asthma, which means I don't have it, but it's to the point where I almost have asthma. Sometimes we do those exercises and I can't do it. What I usually do is ask my band director or field commander if it's okay for me to not do the breathing part, but, instead, count in my head. Most of the time, they are understanding of this.
Like what bandgeekus shorticus said, I would go to the doctor and see if there are any medications you can take. Two puffs may work. I usually take one and I'm fine, but that's just me.

Maybe you can look at some books/websites for athletes with asthma? There was this football player at my school who was incredibly fast and just amazing in general, and I was so surprised when I found out he had asthma. It seems like just being in shape will help a lot.

Advair helps for everyday use. Even though I have mild asthma, I can feel a definite difference. Also, water water and even more water.
With humidity, there's nothing much you can do about it, so don't feel bad. I've been there. biggrin
