I know this is pretty different than most of the topics here, but I'm a huge, huge fan of classic Disney movies. (I'm strictly talking about the first in the series, cartoon animation, actually good movies based on folklore and fairy tales that were first published in the 1800s and the movies themselves that came out in the 90s and back)
Don't get me wrong, I've heard good things about Up and The Princess and the Frog, but the truth is, I haven't seen them (Up looks amazing!)
I'm too indecisive to pick a favorite, but my favorite story (Not the movie, but the written story that the movie was based off of) has to be The Little Mermaid. It makes a lot more sense in the original story and it has, in my opinion, a much better ending.
The movie that I think feels the least like a children's movie (in a good way) is Hunchback of Notre Dame. The saddest would be The Fox and the Hound.
Just so you know, I fail to acknowledge the existence of the second movie in the series, ie: The Little Mermaid 2, Cinderella 2, Sleeping Beauty 2. And here's why: The producers basically said "Hey, this was popular, let's make another one only take out all of the components of a good movie to make a quick buck." They don't try with ANY of those movies. It goes: First movie is awesome, the second movie is worse beyond all belief, and the third is a step up from the second, but no where near as awesome as the first.

*Remembers little mermaid*
That story was so sad, where she becomes a wind sister and has to live like that for three hundred years! I think the most depressing childrens story though was the little match girl, as for disney movies in general, I think my favorite disney animated movie is The Lion King. Its been a long time since I've seen it but It just seems to ring the most for me!

Oh my gosh, The Little Match Girl is just tragic! But it's also a good story.
And I liked that ending to The Little Mermaid better than the Disney one. I don't know why, exactly, but it just seems happy. Especially with the whole crying plot device. It just seemed to work. Very poetic.

Well actually, I also agree The Little Mermaid was really good. (original story) My all time favorite has to be Beauty and the Beast... I just find that as a really good story with a good moral.

I know this isn't exactly a "classic", but it's my favorite Disney movie from the 1990s. Mulan is my all-time favorite. ^_^

Mulan is just epic! XD
Beauty and the Beast: The lovers actually exchange more than six lines of dialogue! XD I think that's one of the reasons it worked. It also had a lot going on at once which made it all the more appealing.

I want to go back and watch all the movies like the Hunchback of Notre Dame. I watched in french recently, but I didn't get very much from it. o.O I just knew I loved the music.
I wouldn't mind seeing Hercules again, I think that might be my favourite.

Hercules? I loved that movie. When I was little my mom got me a plate with Megara (Meg) on it and it's just about the only plate I use. I have one at my dad's too. xD

All the classic Disney movies are amazingly good! I say THOSE should be re-released in theaters, not all this Twilight B.S.

Classic Disney movies composed my childhood. My favorites have to be Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan. Some of the newer Disney stuff is great, like Wall-E and Finding Nemo. Then again... Some of it isn't. (HANNAH MONTANA HURRDURR) As a kid I actually didn't like Little Mermaid all that much. ;; Mainly because I didn't like the creepy shriveled up worm things that Ursula collected. I also didn't like that Ariel almost turned into one. Beauty and the Beast and Mulan were wonderful, too.
