Chapter 1 biggrin ragon of Legend

Up beyond the mountains and high above the clouds lived the dragon clan. Their leader was the king of their land and had won them many wars. There were two clans of dragons. The black dragons and the red dragons. There were two kings Xavier and Garrett. Garrett was the head of the red dragons and Xavier head of the black. For many years the two fought, finally they found peace and split the two lands in half. Garrett and Xavier both wed and each had many kids but two in particular were chosen to unite the kingdoms when they grew old enough. Kurrashi the first born son of Garrett and Manah the first daughter of Xavier. They were both still young yet but when they grew up, the peace would finally rest upon the kingdom.

“Dad! Dad! Look what I made!” exclaimed Kurrashi showing off a statue he made at the age of 5. It was a very odd looking clay statue of a dragon.

“Very good son, you will do well to the kingdom someday.” Smiled Garrett as if Kurrashi would understand at such an age.

“Papa, what’s a kingdom?” asked Kurrashi.

“A kingdom is a place where a king and queen reside. With loyal soldiers and many peasants. We are all part of this kingdom. The kingdom of Dragons” smiled Garrett.

“Mommy is not here though.” Smiled Kurrashi knowing his mom was not like the others. His mother was only half dragon. Kurrashi was a half demon like his mother so his father had a magician make him a pendant that he always wore. It was red for the red symbolized “Red Dragon”.

“Even so my boy, she will return. We are one as dragons, united together for a greater cause. You will understand when you are older.” Smiled Garrett messing with his son’s long black hair as he walked off. Manah came running over to him.

“My dad says you and I should be friends. Want to be friends?” asked Manah.

“Sure, why not.” Smiled Kurrashi taking her hand and dashing off into the field of clouds. They played for hours upon hours. Their fathers were watching them from a great distance.

“What should we do if they should decide to rebel?” asked Xavier.

“Simple, we will ban them from ever entering our clan again. Betraying the clan is worse than any other. Killing them would put them out of their misery but to never see their sisters, brothers again would kill them inside.” Explained Garrett.

“Yes this is true but then we risk showing the world we exist. Is this a risk we are willing to make for the sake of our clans?” asked Xavier.

“Yes at any cost we must not fight any longer. The wars are over, we are at peace with one another. Another war with dragons, demons, or even humans I do not wish to encounter.” Explained Garrett.

“Yes, this is true especially those humans. They don’t even know we exist.” Laughed Xavier.

“The kids seem to like each other so far and I’m glad. I’m sure that my son will do me honor by marrying your daughter.” Smiled Garrett watching the kids play in the clouds.

“Yes, and my daughter will most definitely bring honor to our clan as well. Then when they are eighteen and old enough to wed our peace will finally be granted. A combination of red and black dragons as one body, one nation and one people.” Explained Xavier.

“Wow, Manah you’re faster than my sisters!” exclaimed Kurrashi chasing her in a game of tag.

“Yes that’s because I’m my father’s daughter and he’s the fastest dragon around.” Laughed Manah as she continued to run from him.

“Oh yeah well I’m my father’s son and I’m faster than he is.” Shouted Kurrashi chasing her further and further until he bumped into his father and Manah’s father. They had ran all the way through the kingdom back to where they had started.

“My son it is time for you to train.” Calmly spoke Garrett. His son needed to learn how to fight if he was to become the leader of the united clans.

“Daddy, I want to play! Training is boring!” exclaimed Kurrashi who looked back and noticed Manah was having the same conservation with her father as they walked off.

“Boring? That is the only excuse you can think of?” asked Garrett getting on his knees and looking deep into his son’s fiery eyes of hazel. “Who are you?”

“My name’s Kurrashi and I’m your son.” Smiled Kurrashi thinking this was just a game.

“Yes this is true but what else?” asked Garrett. His son should be old enough to know who he was.

“I’m a prince.” Kurrashi proclaimed with pride.

“Very good and do you remember in school what the teacher taught you about princes?” asked Garrett.

“She said that when a prince grows up he becomes a king.” Smiled Kurrashi.

“Yes that is true and I am a king. As a king I have to protect everyone in the clan even the peasants. So, when you grow up you will be responsible for the entire nation. This is why we need to train now to prepare you for your future role as king of the dragons. After all you are just a half demon like your mother therefore you lack strength as I have.” Explained Garrett hoping at least some of this would get through to Kurrashi.

“How come I have to be king?” asked Kurrashi.

“Because, son you are the first born and also the only male of our clan so far that has been born. You have two sisters Diana and Spencer but they can’t be king.” Explained Garrett.

“Why not?” asked Kurrashi.

“Because Kurrashi your sisters are girls. Girls are princesses and princesses eventually marry a prince and together they role as one. King and queen. The king is the head of the nation. The queen is second in command. Now do you see why we have to train?” asked Garrett.

“It’s still boring.” Groaned Kurrashi as his father picked him up and took him into the castle to the training room. Inside there were weights everywhere. Then there were peasants who served as a sparring opponent for the kids and young dragons. Kurrashi got thrown in and landed hard on his face on the rug floor. Garrett would teach his son from day one that just because he was his son didn’t mean he got special treatment. Kurrashi wiped the dirt from his clothes and stood up and brought out his wings. He was still human but with red wings. Kurrashi knew from last time that without them he was not a dragon at all just a human. Without the pendant he wore he wouldn’t have those wings on his back. He could never be like his father. His father could completely transform into a dragon. He had told Kurrashi that he was yet to young to learn this trick. His father spread his wings and looked deeply into his son’s eyes.

“Are you ready?” asked Garrett. Kurrashi looked at him and smiled.

“Yeah, ready as I’ll ever be.” Smiled Kurrashi as they fought. Garrett knew one flick of his wings would send his son flying. Garrett would be nice today and give his son a fair fight.

“The day I die or you get married is the day you become king. As king you must protect the people of our land with your strength.” Explained Garrett.

“Will I have strength like yours when I’m king?” asked Kurrashi trying to strike his father’s legs and missing horribly.

“Maybe, if you train properly.” Laughed Garrett barely making an effort. Garrett and Xavier were the strongest dragons in their lands. Garrett wasn’t expecting to be beat by his five year old son, who was only full demon because of a pendant he wore.

Kurrashi kept dodging his father’s wing attacks. His father wasn’t even using half his strength that Kurrashi could tell. Kurrashi ran straight into him and he pushed him back hard onto the floor. Kurrashi landed with a big thud and the kings servants came rushing in.

“Does your son need medical aid sir?” asked Owen the healer of the dragons.

“No, he needs to learn to defend for himself. Besides were not done training.” Explained Garrett folding his wings in and grabbing his sword from its sheath.

“Sir, that’s the legendary sword. You can’t possibly use it to train.” Shuttered Owen. Garrett knocked him out of the way and pointed the sword to his son’s throat.

“Get up” declared Garrett. He watched as Kurrashi stumbled his way to his feet. Kurrashi saw the sword and fear grew within. Kurrashi didn’t have a sword yet, how was this fair?

“My son you are too weak. If you wish to do our family honor you must get stronger.” Explained Garrett.

“How do I become stronger father?” asked Kurrashi.

“Simple you must defeat me in hand to hand combat.” Explained Garrett.

“Father I’m too young to beat you.” Groaned Kurrashi. Garrett drew blood from his shoulder and grabbed him by his neck.

“No excuses, I was only four when I held my first sword. Five years old shouldn’t be a problem for a son of mine.” Declared Garrett. Garrett went and got his son and him ordinary swords.

“Now son, fight me like you hate me.” Explained Garrett preparing his defensive stance. Kurrashi held the sword and stumbled to meet his father in the middle. They both looked deep into one another’s eyes when Xavier and Manah came charging in.

“Garrett were under attack!” Xavier yelled. Manah went to Kurrashi and hugged him.

“I’m scared Kurrashi.” Cried Manah into his shirt. Kurrashi tried to soothe her even though he had no clue what was happening. He used his ears to listen to the conservation between the two kings.

“How did they find us?” asked Garrett.

“I don’t know but they are here and a lot of them.” Explained Xavier panting.

“Why didn’t you hold them off and send Manah?” asked Garrett.

“No, way was I letting her roam around alone when humans are here. Not just any humans either, demon hunters.” Explained Xavier.

“I don’t understand how they got here though. Let alone how they figured out we existed. We sealed our presence for millions and millions of years. How could this happen?” asked Garrett.

“Who is their leader do you know?” asked Garrett looking to his son and Manah. Kurrashi still held his sword in his left hand, good.

“It is a female and her name is Keri.” Explained Xavier. “But she’s not alone, she has many strong men and she is a spell caster herself!”

“This is not good, not good at all.” Exclaimed Garrett. “Okay you and I will go after this Keri and her hunters. “Kurrashi come here.” Kurrashi came over and looked to his father.

“Yes, father?” asked Kurrashi.

“Son, here’s your chance to show me your strong. You need to get Manah and yourself to a safe place. Make sure to kill any demon hunters that try to get in your way.” Explained Garrett.

“Where do I go?” asked Kurrashi.

“Fly Manah and yourself to Xavier’s land. They are attacking here so his land is the safest place.” Explained Garrett.

“Yes father, I will make you proud.” Smiled Kurrashi spreading his wings and taking Manah by the hand. They ran out of the building and into the sky.

“Be safe my son.” Shouted Garrett as Xavier and himself went to fight the hunters.

Once to the other side Manah and Kurrashi landed. This was a sight Kurrashi had never seen before. Xavier’s kingdom. Black dragons were flying in every direction. A lot of dragons were heading toward his father’s land to help in the fight. One of the black dragons came up to them and returned to human form to speak with them.

“Princess Manah, glad to see you have returned. Shall I take you and your friend to your quarters?” asked Lance.

“Yes, please without my father I do not know how to get there.” Replied Manah. Lance returned to his dragon form and they hopped on his back and headed for the castle. Once there he let them down and flew away again as fast as he had landed.

“What do we do now?” asked Kurrashi.

“We go hide in my room until our fathers have won this battle.” Replied Manah.

“I’m no coward. We have to do something Manah!” cried Kurrashi. He had to help his father to prove his strength.

“The only thing we can do is hurt them. Having two little kids to protect would not help them Kurrashi. We have to hide we don’t have a choice.” Snarled Manah grabbing him and running inside.

On the other side Garrett and Xavier were fighting side by side and knocking out hunters one by one. Keri was in a barrier that floated in the air. She was surrounded by her magic and the hunters that were on this land.

“Let’s see now, I came here to get at least one dragon. I refuse to leave without one. I just hope it’s the right one.” whispered Keri to herself. Keri had found her sister Jeanette in the mountains and now they were working together. Jeanette had told her that she wanted a dragon that had a pendant for this pendant had special powers. If Keri and Jeanette succeeded in capturing a dragon Jeanette was going to help find Keri a way to kill Daceria. When Jeanette heard who Daceria was and what had happened to Kedro she realized why her sister wanted her dead. They needed power for that and they needed the pendant to do it. Jeanette was in the land of the black dragons disguised as a simple peasant. She saw the castle and ran to it. She also had men waiting for her by the clouds to return Keri and her to their world below. Jeanette entered the building. She stopped and listened. There was no sound to be heard for miles. That meant they had taken the bait. Keri was distracting the parents and the kids would be all for the taking. Jeanette searched every room frantically to find either a red or a black dragon that belonged to either king. She entered Manah’s room and there Kurrashi stood pointing his sword at her. Jeanette saw the pendant around his neck and smiled.

“Hello, there what’s your name?” asked Jannette.

“My name is Kurrashi and I’m the first born son of the red dragon clan. Who are you?” asked Kurrashi putting on a brave face and shifting his feet to a defensive stance.

“Kurrashi eh? Your father must be the legendary Garrett.” remarked Jannette. “Bet you didn’t know that when you turn eighteen your father is going to force you to marry Manah.” explained Jeanette. Jeanette had studied the history of the clans before entering and knew about the peace treaty. Kurrashi looked to Manah under the bed and she shook her head that yes it was true.

“Why?” asked Kurrashi curious.

“Well, you’re only five so you wouldn’t know the history of the lands but you see Xavier and Garrett used to hate each other. They finally came to terms and now are just waiting to unite the two kingdoms. They are using you, how does that make you feel?” asked Jeanette.

“Just go away and never come back!” yelled Manah from her hiding spot under the bed.

“Heh, no worries girl you’re not the one I want.” declared Jeannette smirking.

“You want me, you’ll have to fight me.” declared Kurrashi preparing his attacking stance as his father had shown him.

“I’m not in the mood for a fight. There’s a much simpler way.” declared Jeanette as she muttered a spell. Kurrashi and Manah were knocked to the ground unconscious. “Okay boys come in. Two strong men Ralph and Kyle came in and picked up Kurrashi.

“Give me his pendant and here have these.” smiled Jeanette taking the pendant and handing them chains for the dragon boy Kurrashi.

“Keri is going to love this when she sees it. Now all we need is the blue pendant. I wonder who has that one?” asked Jeanette as she and her hunters returned to the mountain lands to their secret location deep under the mountains. Keri also retreated back with Jannette. They only lost about fifty hunters which was not bad at all considering.

Garrett and Xavier found Manah on the floor unconscious but Kurrashi was nowhere to be found. The next day Manah explained to them what had happened.

“My son why did they take my only son!” shouted Garrett after hearing the story. It was the pendant. A magician named Owen had made it for them. What was so special about it and if that was their target why did they still take his son.

“Well, sir what do we do now?” asked Lance to Xavier.

“I don’t know truly. Manah is my only kid and Kurrashi was his only son.”
