As some of you know (and some of you don't), I'm traveling to the US to visit aretoo and Kusa in just over a week. It's my first time out of the country, so I'm pretty excited.
Since I decided to go, my dad has been rambling at me and telling me horror stories of airport security, and custom's officers sending people back to their own country for saying one wrong word, and things like that. I'm now terribly afraid I'll say something wrong and they'll send me back to Canada.
In any case, I'd like to hear your airport stories, whether it's about security, line-ups, on the airplane stories, funny ones, sad ones, face-palm stories, cringe-worthy stories.... Share them all!
Once I go to the US I'll use this thread to post pictures and stories, so look for updates next weekend. biggrin
Forceful spoon feeding time! Discuss: -airport/airplane stories -parents warning you too much and then scaring you half to death and making you paranoid -travel stories -Oregon -how awesome aretoo and Kusa are to let me visit on such short notice

I'll paint you mornings of gold, I'll spin you Valentine evenings...I was stuck next to the window and my bladder was literally screaming for release. Though we're strangers till now, We're choosing a path between the stars. Hawt.

When I was little, about once a year I'd fly up to visit my relatives who all live outside Washington DC. Grandparents on my dad's side, various cousins around my age.... I loved it 'cause either my dad would be flying with me or he'd at least be the one seeing me off at the airport. He was a frequent flyer from his work so he'd take me up to the special Delta Crown room or whatever it was and he'd get me a cherry coke with extra cherries and I'd eat pretzels and feel all special. I was always disappointed if there wasn't enough time for it... ;.;
But yeah, that all made me love flying. It was like a mini adventure. Now with all the extra safety stuff and taking off your shoes and the long lines it feels more like a chore. But I still always enjoy the actual flight part. It gets old fast with it being cramped in coach, but I tend to get a window seat and could stare out for forever, really....
Different airports are different experiences. I'm a bit bias, but I like Hartsfield-Jackson. It's fast and easy to get through security, it's easy to find your way around, and the Atrium is kind of snazzy. I also remember liking the San Diego airport quite a bit, but airports like LaGuardia and Dulles have something to be desired.

I'll paint you mornings of gold, I'll spin you Valentine evenings...@Waku: I make sure to get the early flights so I don't have to fight with the ridiculous traffic. Where Las Vegas's airport is located, one has to take the highway past the Strip and EVERYONE takes that highway to work and whatnot. It's a disgusting thing to get caught in during rush hour. Though we're strangers till now, We're choosing a path between the stars.

The really sad thing is, I had to think about that one for a second xd
Anyway... never been on a plane in my life. Been through two cross-country moves in my life, and we drove both times.
I actually like driving, and I'm sure that if I do any traveling, it will be by car (Considering, of course, how much money I have for gas and whether the place I visit is accessible by car or not.)

Security in Winterpeg isn't too bad. I went through with all my diabetic supply's [pen needles, insulin, lancets, ect.] and forgot to tell them untill after it went through and they guy said they get that a lot. That was this fall. We are waaay to lax here lol. Toronto and Ottawa's were more strict. I had to get the metal scanner thing. As far as the rides themselves they weren't to bad, maybe a little boring, on one flight they didn't have a movie and it was around a 2-hr flight I think... And on the same flight from another airline they did... mad

I don't want to pull my own chain but I AM awesome aren't I? mrgreen
But seriously, all you have to keep telling yourself all through the travel "Process" is
"I have done nothing wrong. I have nothing dangerous on me. And I'm so excited to see Aretoo and Kusa when I land."
When you have that mentality you can smuggle anything make a safe and expedient journey. whee

Heathrow doesn't trust the rest of the worlds air port security, I flew from canada to heathrow and from heathrow to norway, in canada I bought a coke after security, I forgot I had it when I went through security AGAIN in heathrow, how they expect me to pick up a bomb while flying is... beyond me.
they poured the contents of my bag out crying appearantly I look terroristical, and despite having a reciept for my coke and proof of flight, I did not get to keep the bottle.

aretoo Kalstolyn Kals is questing again!Shram you should have grabbed it and chugged what was left of the precious beverage on the spot, before they could confiscate it. Check sig for details! ...'Cause THAT wouldn't have looked suspicious AT ALL. rofl You guys are making me laugh so much I couldn't eat for five minutes for fear of choking. xd Kusa: Well you are awesome. x3 And that is very good advice. I will keep it in mind. ^^ It'll keep me calm, I think. smile Now replying to everyone in order: Chexley: Oh dear, you first plane trip doesn't sound like it was much fun at all. D: I get dizzy and nauseated in transportation (bus, car, train or plane) sporadically and for no identifiable (sp?) reason, so I never know when I'm going to have a good trip, or when where I feel like I'm going to die. waku: That's really nice that you have so many good memories associated with flying. smile My dad was a glider pilot once, and he always found it very distracting because he'd look around and get absorbed into the scenery, forgetting her was controlling the plane. He loved it up there, loved the view, and I think he instilled that love in me. I always try to get a window seat when I'm flying. Roland: If you're sad, then I'm pathetic, because I still don't get it. >.>; Large Inmate: I hate it when long flights don't have movies, or something to distract you with. Well, I hate it when it's really cramped on the plane. If not, then I feel more peaceful and I can cope with boredom way better. Shram: Oh no, the dreaded kamakazie coke bottle. D: You could have killed EVERYONE with it. >.<
