Integrated Vechiles- Combining Force Objectives

The basic idea is that... At first, I decided that all planes and helicopters would be in the airforce; all motorized units and infantry would be in the Army and Marines; all Marine affialated things and boats and ships would be in the navy, the like.

That while usually the marines would have their own planes, that now the airforce would have all the planes; the navy all the boats; the army and marines all the infantry, unlike real life were the army has planes and the marines do and the navy and all the corresponding things.

But now I'm not sure if making it purely linear is the best idea; each unit needs some flexibility, and the marines being completely dependant on the airforce for certain things and the airforce needing the navy for an aircraft carrier is a little... out there.

So I'm wondering. Should I incorporate unit integration with all branches, or should I leave it linear as it is?

Basically- Should I give the Army, Navy, and Marines planes?

Should the Navy have a Navy seal like group?

Should the Airforce have ground units like the SAS and paratroopers?

Or should only the corresponding units have vechiles and units specific to their style of fighting?

Do we want Marine pilots, and Airforce infantry, or just keep it linear like it is?

Every branch specializes in it's own area. That's the way I see it, and I think it works best that way. I think each branch should have it's flexibility. If not, well, the military isn't going to be very diverse. I mean, they can still work together and everything. But they all specialize: Navy in sea combat/oriented stuff; Air force in planes; Army in ground forces; Marines in shock troppers (bullet sponging, lol).

Yep yep. How far do I integrate the flexibiltiy though; keep the corresponding branch responsibilities yes, but how far do I incoporate external unit capabilities?

As long as we have marine and Navy pilots the job of the airforce is going to be just as differant when we have airforce specific paratroopers.

Well, you have to think of what each one does. Navy pilots give the military a way to project air superiority over areas unreachable by the Air force, and vice versa. Air force paratroopers are completely different from army because they do two distinct jobs: Combat control (setting up a perimeter behind enemy lines and doing air traffic controlling), and paramedics (basically fully trained field medics and parachute behind enemy lines). Marines are like a shock force (think of D-day), while army is more of a way to establish a lasting hold on an area.

Army has the green beret who go train guerrilla forces.
Navy has Navy Divers, SWCC (special warfare combat craftsman, they pilot the super wammadine riverine craft that sometimes drop Seals off).

But they all work together. I've trained marines to use...special comms equipment (yeah, we'll go with that for a name), and they also go out to sea on some of our amphibious ships and aircraft carriers. Stuff like that.

I know this. The question is to what extent should this guild do it, and why. whee

Well, I think you should control it over all and leave the rest up to the generals and admirals. This way we can have people in different branches still able to role play together.

Yes, this is the general basis. As a matter of fact, everybody except Archer is me. (mah mules!)

So, the question is, what do you think about it, and why?

The general concept of a head military person and then branch commanders is definetley understood.

I think it's a good idea to let the military forces be joint forces. If they weren't, we wouldn't win any of our wars.
PostPosted: Sun Jan 10, 2010 8:13 pm

..................................They are already joint forces.

Let me provide an example- The Marines require the airforce pilots to transport marine soldiers right? Should the marines instead have a marine pilot to transport marine soldiers rather than an airforce one?

My general answer will be to any extent needed, and because it's easier to manage that way.
