So, I just got back from my girlfriends High school graduation. She graduated High school today. I too am a December grad, I graduated December 2007. While sitting there, I began thinking. (Miraculously, no one could smell s**t burning) December grads aren't too common in my area. The only school around here that offers December graduations is Academy del Sol, which is an alternative high school. They always have under 400 students total, more often than not a lot less. Today, 35 students graduated. My graduating class was 27 students. So I wonder, ATG, is it common in your area for high school students to graduate mid school year?
Also, for anyone else who DOES graduate this December, Congratulations!

I'll paint you mornings of gold, I'll spin you Valentine evenings...Quite frankly, I've NEVER heard of classes graduating in December. For one, it gets too cold for people to stand outside and say their good-byes.
From my experience, everyone graduates in June in time for them to get started on their summer stuff. *Shrugs.* Though we're strangers till now, We're choosing a path between the stars.

If you woulda told me College I'd believe you. I graduate next December. High Schools here don't do that. There's such thing as an august graduation here for high school.

Yeah I've never heard about it in high schools before, but it's fairly common for college.

There are no actual graduation ceremonies in December for high schools here, although some people can choose to graduate in December if they have enough credits. Most people just wait for June, and get a few extra credits.
There are usually December graduation ceremonies for Universities, though.

Well both College and High school here encourage people to come to summer school. When people start doing that they start graduating a little early.
No ceremonies for HS though.

When I was in high school we had minimum day for seniors. So if you were ahead in credits you could either leave early or go in late, but you still graduated in the spring that way.

I believe that at my school you can have all of the necessary credits and required classes by the first semester of your senior year, and you can get your diploma early, but there's no ceremony for it and I don't know of a single person that's done it.

Here in Australia, December graduations are the norm. The school year commences in either late January or the beginning of February and finishes in December. I am not aware of any high schools that do differently. Universities, can of course differ with some students choosing to enroll/graduate mid-year.

Kals is questing again!Universities might have December grads, but a lot of them hand out your actual parchment at the convocation ceremony, so they won't allow you to graduate until your program requirements are filled. I, for example, will be graduating June 18, but everyone else in my program won't graduate until the fall convocation, which is next November, because they'll still be in practicum in June.
The high school semester is not over until the end of January, so December graduations are silly -- as are May graduations, which actually happen back home. People "graduate" and then they take it back when they fail their provincial exams. lol. Check sig for details!
