Ever feel like a geek out of water?
Need a place to hang with other geeks like yourself?
I know we have a lot of geeks around here (in and out of the closet), so I thought you might enjoy Geeks Anonymous, a guild here on Gaia that covers nearly all the geeky geekdoms imagineable. Give it look. You might see something you like.

It sounds pretty cool to me. biggrin I'm already an active member in three guilds and a hangout thread, so I don't think I need to take anything on right now. But if one of them slows down, I'll give a try. Heaven knows that this guild is slowing down. @_@
But you know, I never really feel like a geek on Gaia. I actually feel normal. Although, everyone instantly recognizes me as a geek on campus. I guess that my t-shirt collection might be the reason why. sweatdrop

To be honest, Geeks Anonymous is slow; that's why I agreed to advertise for it in other guilds.
As for on Gaia, yeah, everyone's geeky nature comes out magnified. Maybe because we're all condensed to hobby-guilds, some pictures in our signatures, and textual expression, LOL! But yeah, I'm a total IRL geek. :3
I'm a member of ten guilds! My activity in them fluxuates depending on the activeness and my interest.

I'm technically a member of 5 guilds. The Captain's Guild closed down, but I'm still a member because I like watching how the number of members drops steadily. I'm a member of a Fruits Basket/Sailor Moon guild that I joined in 2005. The guild died a long time ago. I'm still a member because the captain is one of my friends on Gaia. I'm a member of The League of Somewhat Sane Moderate Anime-Discussing Gaians. I joined that one in 2005 also. That one has been reduced to one thread, but at least a few members are still active in posting in that one thread. Anime & Manga Club is similarly down to one thread for all practical reasons. I'm actually the captain of that one now that our old captain left Gaia. That one was started in 2007, and I was a charter member. Then, I'm the captain of this guild. I guess that about covers my guilds. I don't like joining guilds haphazardly. I like to commit to the guilds that I'm in, so I actually feel like I'm at home in them.

For me, it's a question of what defines "geek." Chibi says that I'm more of a nerd than a true "geek," but I'm just not sure. What kind of geekiness does Geeks Anonymous include?

And I still haven't read the Harry Potter books or watched the movies! As for my brand of "geekery," it mainly deals with things most people just don't care about or have never heard of. Like Alvin and the Chipmunks, obscure spy novels, things like that.

Wow, chibi, that's quite a record! You're moving on up in the Gaia community, LOL! If you hang around long enough, you'll be the Queen of the World!
The point of Geeks Anonymous was to have geekery about all sorts of obscure things. The problem is attracting geeks that are versatile enough. xp
I like Alvin and the Chipmunks okay, though I don't know if I'd qualify as a geek.
Oh! A geek is anyone who obsesses randomly and a little creepily over something. Someone can be a stamp-collecting geek or a Star Wars geek. The possibilites are endless!
A nerd is someone who is more technologically savy, like with computers and the internet.
And a dork is just . . . anyone who's a dork. A dork just is. It's self-explanatory! sweatdrop

Wait? I thought that a nerd was just someone who's brainy without being obsessed with geeky things.
Alvinette's kind of into the mainstream geeky stuff, but not to the point of scary. I did get her to watch a few animes, but she hasn't watched the ones that I sent her yet. (hint hint, nudge nudge) But, I have never seen someone who's a bigger Chipmunks fan than her. She's had Alvin dolls since before she started kindergarten. Her entire bedroom is filled with Alvin and the Chipmunks stuff. She's a hard-core fan.
What record are you referring to? How am I moving up in the Gaia community? I did just get promoted to crew in The League of Somewhat Sane Moderate Anime-Discussing Gaians, but that guild isn't very active. sweatdrop Uncle Kenny is the captain of that guild. You might have seen him around in the forums modding. But you know, I feel kind of bad for him. He's been having some medical problems. sad
