The other day Pale Kids Mafia, mentioned Sufism, and i realized i really didnt know much about it, all i really knew is that it was possibly a form of mysticism.

I also know that Sufism doesnt really promote having worldly possessions, because it hinders the love for Allah (swt).

[Is Sufism embraced in mainstream Islam?
Are there controversies over Sufism?
What types of things are associated with Sufism?

All I know is that Sufism is practiced by the Dervishes in Turkey.

I dunno, I just saw these Turkish men in white gowns or robes or whatever they were wearing and were dancing in circles in them and that was supposed to be a part of Sufism. No, I don't really know much about it.

>> Sufis are the Muslim mystics...and not just the whirling dervishes most people seem to think of when they hear the word. Sufis can be either Sunni or Shia. They are a little different from most Muslims, in that they believe they believe they can become closer to God and feel His divine presence in this life...as opposed to waiting for the next to come. Some Sufism can contradict mainstream Islam, while other approaches do not at all. Most Muslims in Chechnya are actually Sufis.

Okay, I don't know whether this will help, but sufism is a sect in Islam where people try to get in touch with god. Not how we normally pray and stuff. They try to get in touch like how Muhammad (pbuh) was in touch with God, connect with the divine. So they try to bring the divine into this life instead of waiting for him in the hereafter. Kind of like Buddhists and their struggle to attain nirvana. Don't really know how to explain it. They strive to be ascetics and try to look into the more mystical side of Islam. That's all I know. Wow, looks like I don't know much about them either. I have talked to some, and their thoughts are pretty radical. Most of what they talk about doesn't make sense to me.
