Woohoo, lots of ideas for topics today, alhumdillilah.

The other day i had to pray in public which didnt have any place outside of view. Usually, when I'm at the mall i can go in the prayer center but this time i did it in front of people and they stared sweatdrop

I'm not ashamed of it, but...I have this social phobia when people are looking at me. I dont get why they feel the need to stare, it's not like i didnt try to do it in a nook or somewhere. Baahh >_>

How do you feel when doing prayer in public?
Do others stare?

If I pray out in public, which I try to do before I eat, often people look then too...I try to remember that often people are drawn to prayer and religion, even if I am praying or singing a prayer, my cats will come and look XD Be a good example so that others might learn and maybe even want to understand more...

I feel comfortable as I am focusing only a thanks upon God. If I converted to Islam, I think I would still be comfortable.

I think if I saw a Muslim praying in public, I would probably just stand and watch (out of interest, not because I'd think they were a freak or anything) and then maybe ask them a few questions about it when they were done sweatdrop .

If I watched it would be out of awe and interest too...I love the beauty of prayer..

Depending on where you are, it could be the first time they have seen it. If more people prayed all over, it wouldn't be as new or stare-worthy.

I have social anxiety disorder, so praying in public freaks me out just because I feel like everyone's watching me.

I do have to pray in public a lot though, or at least in semi-public; I work six hour shifts at my part-time job, and usually my shift will overlap prayer times. I've only got a fifteen minute break so I can't run to the mosque and pray (even though there's a mosque really close to the store where I work). I usually just pray in my car. People don't stare at me, but I think my co-workers find it weird that I spend all of my breaks cooped up in my car.

I don't really mind though. In my car people can't really stare at me--and it's either pray in there, or pray in the locker room with it's dirty, disgusting, gum-coated floor.

I used to be very nervous about praying in public. But I've gotten used to it. By now I know a few places in town where I can pray comfortably (Debenhams have very spacious and comfortable dressing rooms xD). I've also prayed outside in the open several times.

A few weeks back, my husband and I went on holiday to Scotland with a motorbike and a tent. Because the tent was so small, we had to pray all five prayers outside every day on the wet grass ^^; (Scotland = rainy haha)
Only twice did we pray inside because the rain was too bad at the time.
That really made me appreciate the comfort of my prayer clothes and rug in a warm comfortable room or a mosque!

The most socially awkward moments I prayed elsewhere, I was with a close friend of mine. She had invited me to this evangelical christian event, she wanted to share it with me. So I went with her and, since it spanned both Asr and Maghrib time, I prayed there. It was awkward *laughs*

The only time I would feel awkward would be if I were in the way. As long as it's a place off to the side away from the people, I don't mind if they can see me. This is mostly because I'm just kind of weird in general, so I'm used to staring. rolleyes

Actually though, I prayed in a handicapped bathroom stall once this year, because I was at the airport. Sometimes, it's best to avoid the drama.

Don't mind it. People are people, and we all know how people can be

Assalamualaykum, well normally I don't pray in areas outside my home that are not dedicated for Salaah (prayers). And I'm the type of person who doesn't always like it most of the times, when people are like just starring at you...lol I'm like what is there something in my face lol. But that's just a personal perspective.

I have prayed in public many times. Sometimes you have to, if there are no other places. But somehow I always try to find a prayer room, or mosque lol and since Bangladesh is a majority Muslim country it's not too difficult finding one, Alhamdulillah. Praying in other people's houses is too common, and here public I took as markets etc where you don't have a place to pray and you have to make a place of your own. Since I'm a guy I have no problems smile I can go anywhere, anytime, praying, walking around or even doing toilet, no big issues for me. But normally I prefer a quiet place dedicated for prayers, so that I don't get distracted and can put more concentration on my Salaah Insha'Allah smile
