I was wondering everyone's opinion on the Niqab. My opinion is that, it is a serious commitment. And i totally look up to sisters, especially in the West, that do take on that commitment. I've not seen any in person in America which i can recall. But i do see a lot when i go to the UK to see my husband's family. What is your opinion on the Niqab? Do any ladies here wear Niqab?

As a non-Muslim who is giving serious consideration to hijab, at this time I don't feel like I could commit to the niqab.
Out of curiosity, how does a woman wearing niqab eat if she is out somewhere to dinner? Does she lower the face veil part? Or just hold it aside when she eats?

I've seen people with Niqab. And when they eat they slide the food from below the cloth that close the mouth. (Is Niqab the whole thing including the head-scarf and the face veil? XP Confusing) It's funny to see how they eat. XP

dTranquility (Is Niqab the whole thing including the head-scarf and the face veil? XP Confusing) Some are, some are removable. I've seen niquab in my state. Not too many wear it, and what I've seen has been all black. I think niquab is interesting. I respect those who follow the tradition, but I don't think it's practical. (eating out was a great example). In the USA, I think it draws more negative attention to the person.

Well, I don't wear niqab, so I don't know what to say..... sweatdrop The wearing of Niqabs in Saudi Arabia is very very strict, they'd fine you if you wouldn't wear it.....and girls can wear ANYTHING under niqabs, like sleeveless and attractive looking shirts. razz

oh, so it's called Niqab.. sorry, I never really know about the name.. sweatdrop some people who think Extremist Islam=terrorist often look differently to those wearing niqab here.
But I agree with tsuinu-san. woman must cover everything except her face and palm. I don't think covering the face except the eyes is necessary.

hehehe, woah. there is someone wearing that in the guild? Mashallah smile A woman must be covered everywhere exept face. soo the nose dosen't matter. Maybe if you don't wish to breathe any fresh air, u cover your nose.
But a man must not look a woman in the eyes. but the niqaab and hijab is not diffrent in any deeds i think.

Out of curiosity, how does a woman wearing niqab eat if she is out somewhere to dinner? Does she lower the face veil part? Or just hold it aside when she eats? I think it's just an accessory to increase the sense of decency one exhibits (hijab being a minimum, just like underwear by western standards). Hence, the extra serves as a means of expression just like a t-shirt of your favorite band and, like the t-shirt, it can be removed if the situation calls for it (say, when working out at the gym for the shirt or eating for the niqab).
