Hi, as I said in the subject I'm new to Gaia and the Green guild. I've been wanting to get involved with a green project, but I haven't really known where to begin so I've been doing the best I can with what I have. I recycle paper and cans at work, I use reusable mugs at coffee shops rather then the paper ones, and when I move into my new house in a few weeks I'd like to start a vegetable garden. Other then that I'm lost. It's great to know there are other people who want to make a difference. I'd like to make some new friends while I'm here as well. Thank you for any advice you have to offer.

I'm not new to Gaia yet I recycle, volunteer, clean anywhere I go (my friends and boyfriend have told me that I look like a hobo when I do that dramallama ), I despise money sweatdrop , I constantly plant, tend to animals, help other people, or have a book in my face.
I'm one of those people who will pick up every little piece of paper and trash in/on a park and throw it in the trash can/recycle bin, lmao. If it wasn't for my boyfriend we'd be homeless and sleeping under newspaper, hahaha. whee At least I'm a good sport and gots a sunny-disposition. heart

i buy very little paper, and most of it's recycled if i can get it. nearly all af my furniture is second hand. i still use a dishwasher (due to health reasons), but am researching the detergents so that they are cleaner. in fact, all of my detergents, accept for one, is eco-safe. i walk nearly all of the time (had a bicycle, but my balance sucks). all trash goes to a waste management company that recycles what it can. spring cleaning rejects rarely hit the trash - they go to second-hand stores and family. and, yes, the recycle centers are right across the highway, and i'm too lazy to play chicken to get to them.

there seems to be a little confusion (no small thanks to me, hehe), so allow me to introduce myself. i am a 46 year old autistic woman. i joined gaia to work on my sadly lacking social abilities, at the request of my children (they thought i should have fun at the same time smile ) i have completely screwed up my profile, and am not used to talking about myself much, anyway, so you may not get much information from that. i am not looking for dates, and your friendship and patience is appreciated, but not mandatory. in fact, i personally recommend against any high expectations, because i will literally drive you insane biggrin . yes, i am more than a little odd, and seriously, i am completely clueless about the social and game rules around here, though i'm reading them as fast as i can find them. good luck, and thank you for your acceptance so far. cool

I'm a newb to all this too... not to going green though...
When my nieces and nephews were in school, they did a going green little video with their classmates that was sent to then Vice-president Al Gore.
I've been trying to go more green most of my life. I wish I could go vegetarian but health matters won't let me go completely.. that and I'm always surrounded by carnivores!!! Somehow the smell just tempts me too much. I'm weak, I admit it.
Anyways, I've been teaching my SO about recycling and such, like sending a lot less trash to landfills. Next summer we're going to start composting. We live in a rural farm type area so it may even turn into something semi profitable. We also want to start a fruit/veggie garden and I want an herb garden.
I am a Wiccan, so I treasure the earth and all it's creatures.

If you really want to get involved in going green in some other way besides just recycling, try turning off televisions and lights when you go somewhere. I would also suggest in going to your community hall and asking about upcoming green events, such as planting trees, or if you live by a river or stream get a group of friends together and go clean up once a month or w/e. It is very rewarding to look down the bank of the river and see not a spec of garbage, then turn around ans see all your friends feeling good and smiling their faces off.
