Hey everyone! I've recently decided to open up RL requests because I'm in need of money at the moment... (I'm getting kicked out otherwise >.<) So I was wondering if anyone had any tips, or if they can help me come up with better pricing for them (or what to do to make this journal look more eye appealing even..) well again I'm terrible for giving out numbers for art and such, but I do know of some artists who sell there art based off what its worth in gaian currency. Example.
If your art here on gaia sold say 25k for then in real you could ask for 2.5 dollars.
Personnaly though, the difference feels weird to me, in real doing a pic for only 3 dollars dosen't feel like I'm making as much as in gaia with 25k XD so I don't do real commisions even though its the same thing XD.

Yeah.. xD I charge usually 50K upwards here... The value of gold keeps decreasing though, I rarely even take stuff that would be worth that much (usually 80K+) >.<
But I do know what you mean.

the gold-> cash ratio doesn't really work for real life commissions, because on gaia, art is coveted and it's not as if you've got to pay gaia bills or anything.
on gaia, you may have noticed that a lot of the big names can afford to be elitist and still get commissioned for ridiculous prices. for real life commissions, however, they have pretty reasonable prices, because that's all people can afford to pay irl, where there are living costs & other things to pay for.
i've never taken rl commissions myself so i don't think i can help with pricing, sorry

Yeah real life commissions need to be no more than 50 dollars, and that's 50 for AMAZING artwork from amazing artists. You're looking at about 5-10 for mediocre work.

Oh no, I'd never charge $50 for real art, unless it was some sort of monstrous painting or something. lol (In which case the customer would most definitely be getting the original piece shipped to them as well.)
But yeah, a friend of mine said I can do some pencil art for $4-$5, but I wasn't sure what to charge for watercolor/pencil. The tools were quite expensive. I'm going through a rough patch at the moment, cause my boyfriend of 6 years and I broke up, and while we are still friends (best friends really), he doesn't mind living with me as a room mate still, of course that means I will have to pay rent, so if I can't find a job/make some money, he's kicking me out >.<

I hear you. Money is tight for a lot of people. I didn't even get to buy books for my classes, I'm just gliding through them hoping I don't fail because I don't have the books. D:

Yikes! College books then? Those are sooooo expensive! Have you tried looking for used ones at a book store near your school? Or even online? Sometimes you can find them cheaper. *nods*

razz I don't think I can purchase 6 books with 20 dollars.
That's another reason I am doing some commissions on gaia, to gain a better portfolio and to get popularity. Then I will try real life commissions.
I hope everything goes well with you, it really does suck to be an artist and having no other talent. Not many people care to give artists jobs without a degree that follows. ;x

I dont think im anywhere near to getting money for my art, im also badat pricing on gaia so RL money i'm just as clueless. Good luck though!
Regards to pricing though, i would want to pay the artist for their time, i hate paying a lot of money, gaian or otherwise for something that takes the artist only half a hour. Someone who spends a lot of time doing art i want to make it worth their time, does that make sense?

Yeah... It's mad hard trying to find a job right now. There are so few hiring and very high competition. @ Sui: I had someone suggest pay by time, charge $5 an hour or something. I considered it, but not sure how well that would work actually. I guess it must really depend on the artist/customer.

Ah yes one of my friends takes into consideration how long it takes her <3 its a good idea i think but, just to make it worth your time i would hate to think that someone spent like 10 hours of their life drawing and only gets paid like $1 a hour or something but then quality must come into the equation D:
