How did SEGA come up with a spikey blue hedgehog as their mascot? Did you know that they had other ideas for animals they could use? Before SEGA came up with a blue hedgehog they thought of a rabbit, an armadillo(who later became Mighty), and a dog. If you were there at those meetings deciding what animal would represent SEGA what animal would you have suggested? In others word if Sonic wasn't a hedgehog what animal would you want him to be? It's a tough question I know but I've always wondered what other animal he could have been.

I'm pretty sure they chose the blue hedgehog because his color (blue) matches their logo. 3nodding I love how they designed Eggman after Theodore Roosevelt XD. Hmmm Maybe a Bird or a porcupine XD

I guess if he were a porcupine he'd have a lot more spikes that would be funny. Like Sonic on a bad hair day XD.

I would have said rabbit for practicality after all it is a "running game"... then again the fact that sonic was a hyper fast mammal... that is in reality one of the slower mammals that we know of, is probably what got him so much popularity, heck it would have been funny if he was a turtle xd

Well he didn't even have a name yet. Otherwise yeah Sonic the Dog sounds kind of stupid. They almost choose an Armadillo but then they went with a hedgehog. All they really had in mind at that point was a super fast animal.

I wonder if they could have gotten away with another animal? perhaps made like reverse sonic and Tails you know? if they did that shadow would have been a fox two. oh god could u imagine shadow as a rabbit?

They had other animal suggestions but armadillo, rabbit, and dog were considered to be the best that is until someone came up with hedgehog.

MauEvigEternalCat I think I've heard of something like that, but I couldn't imagine Sonic as a rabbit, Armadillo or a dog. Maybe a cat...but then again I'm obsessed with cats... LAWLz, same. which is why all my fan characters are cats... XD

lol Now I'm wondering what else would've happened. If they switched Sonic around with Jet, then Shadow might've ended up as a hawk... but then again what would become of Wave and Storm?
