What's the best method, do you suppose, to gain attention? Whether it's an auction, request, or contest, I'm wondering how you guys get successful turnouts.
This is a skill that I apparently need work on; the participation in my contest is lukewarm at best, though I suspect it has to do with my lame prizes. <_<
Myself, I'm attracted by attention-grabbing banners and graphics used in the thread.

I like nice/professional layouts. That attracts me the most. Samples come next. xD

Have a good product and you won't have to have a million gimmicks and contests to attract anybody.
Having an organized shop and auction helps, and having it look easy on the eyes. I'm easily turned off when I walk into a shop with sub-par organization and messy images/tags/logos/whateveryoucall'em. It usually makes me wander off within two seconds.

Oh, I hadn't even considered the role of samples. surprised I'm like that too, now that I think of it.
@Brexx: I know what you mean with the disorganized layouts. It's like overload. XD

(Assuming that I don't already know if the artist is really good or not)
I tend to judge the layout of the shop first. But that rarely determines whether or not I go on to look at the samples. It'd have to be REALLY terrible for that XD But if the layout is really just....
Ridiculous....
Like font this small where every paragraph has enough text to fill
this
much
space,
I'm probably just gonna be like "******** that" and leave sweatdrop OH. Glitter graphics and people that for some reason use art that they didn't make for banners or for thread graphics really piss me off. I'll probably just write the shop off right away if I see ******** hates seeing a banner with some animu girl that's been on the internet for 67 years* If you don't use your own art in your shop ads, I'm going to assume it's because your art isn't good enough to bring people in to look.

Publicity helps a ton. My contest has some pretty massive prizes, and I hope it's reasonably well-organized, but I had very little interest until I made it into the spotlight a few days ago.
I am curious though, from an artist's perspective, if there's anything I could do to make it more interesting/appealing. The link's in my signature and I'd love some input.

Do you think you benefit in interest in any way by putting the prize list so close to the top?

Thanks! There's always gonna be some people who don't read/find it disorganized, but I accept that. >< I added the FAQ when people kept asking those over and over, even though they're all answered, and some people ask again anyways!
