The liberal republican Senator Spector finnaly Realized he was in the wrong party and went to were he could win, the democrats. This on one hand give the dems 59 to 40 seats. but on the other the republicans are one step closer to becoming the conservative small goverment party again. since the late 90's the party has been swinging center right, then center in 2000 and finnaly center left in early Bush years with a big goverment and fiscal recklesness, more and more the party shrank, but now with the liberals figuring out the proper party to be in this could be a turn around for the once mighty GOP.

Sucks that there's now a filibuster-proof majority, but good riddance.

even though they are a majority as sam adams said " it doesent take a majority to prevail but rather an irate tireless minority keen to set brushfires in peoples minds"

Specter never was a real Republican, anyway. He was just another RINO

Well, instead of being a Progressive Lite (Same bad policy, less urgency), Arlen Specter decided to become a full Progressive. Really, what's the difference?

Geez.... I don't think this is really good, though..... Even though he voted as a dem to begin with, it's bad because now we can't filibuster. The voices of our senators need to be louder now than they were before. Oh, and those idiots that voted the progressives into office in the first place, need to get their heads out of their bums and vote them out.

Yea, good luck with that...
The problem with the Republican party is there is no leadership. I was so hoping Michael Steele would guide the GOP in the right direction when he became the leader of the DNC, but he's become more silent than before he was the leader.
There are a few hopefuls out there. Jim DeMint...he's becoming stronger. Sarah Palin...though I think a 2012 run for her in nigh impossible since resigning the governorship. I had a lot of hope for Sanford, but then he was an idiot and got involved with that Argentinian woman....
Aside from the town-halls and the tea parties, what we really need to focus on right now is 2010. That is the next big step. We need to make these idiots in congress realize that they work for us-- not the other way around. We elect them-- so they should do what WE want. They don't know what's best for us. So, let's get them out of office, get some fresh faces in there-- people who aren't a part of the "good ol' boys" club
