I will soon commit this to the dead thread zone, but I feel as though an explanation of what exactly a Voidmage Can and Can't do is in order.
Firstly, Void draws its power from emptiness and hunger, and this is the thing that affects them most. Some more apparent effects of this encroaching power include the gradual emaciation of the mage in question, as well as a growing sense of indeifference to the world around him/her. Voidmages are also ageless. They live on long after their physical bodies have crumbled into dust, held together by Aethr. because of their immense lifespans, Voidmages are also often considered master scholars, and are sometimes sought out for their knowledge. However, due to their lack of emotion, most Voidmages refuse to help others unless they can come up with a price, often energy. This is because Voidmages consume energy for sustenence.
Voidmagic also has seven major areas of power, the "seven gifts" of the Void. These are a Voidmage's strong points.
1) The Aura: A Voidmage's endless hunger for energy billows around them in an aura, allowing them to consume any form of magical or energy based attack (like a lightning bolt) thrown at them. They can also regurgitate this magic, or digest it to fuel themselves, thus making Voidmages the most versatile, if the weakest, energy mage. It also gives them a very experienced touch at manipulating energy.
2) Shapeshifting: Voidmages are master shapeshifters, able to take any form they wish while within the Void merely by shifting the dust that forms them. They tend to certain "preferred" shapes, often claiming one as their true form.
3) Dreams & Illusions: Because their power derives from emptiness, Voidmages have a natural power over dreams. They can enter the dreams of others if they wish, and their own dreams come true when unprotected by a coccoon. Going hand-in-hand with their dreaming powers, Voidmages are excellent at crafting very convincing illusions, often able to incorporate all five of the senses into them...a very dangerous power (You won't see this one too often, at least not in that form).
4) Sight & Souls: Voidmages, due to their indifferent natures, are also the ones chosen to guide souls on their proper path towards their proper afterlife. Voidmages can grasp the soul of a creature, though it tires them greatly, and hurl it to one of the four afterlives. They also have great magical sight, able to see a soul's balance of light and darkness with a glance. They can, once every eon or so, become nearly omniscient for a quarter of an hour.
5) Energy control: By dint of their hunger, Voidmages are masters of energy manipulation, some to the point where they can not only swallow, but redirect magical attacks. Another form of this (One we will never see, it only appears in the novel), is the ability to control nerves by affecting the electrical signals inside them.
6) Aethr construction: Using Aethr, a Voidmage can build things, though they break down very quickly when not in the Void. This is how the puppets we see are created, as well as the coccoons.
7) Space: Like the Twilight mages, who have almost absolute control over time, Voidmages have almost absolute control over space. This is the main way that they are able to teleport. (We won't see this power too much, save for teleportation)
And finally, Weaknesses:
Voidmages are insanely weak to Twilight based magic, as it sears them to their bones. Even a single touch of twilight can kill a Voidmage if struck in the heart. In their birth forms, this weakness grows exponentially, rendering them vulnerable to even the slightest touch of twilight. A lethal blow struck in a vital area when shapeshifted will reveal what a Voidmage considers their "true" form. Another weakness is the worlds. Outside of the Void, a Voidmage is much weaker and more vulnerable. Even the best can be slain should they leave the safety of the Void. Also, a Voidmages power depends upon their conduit, a slim trail of aethr that connects them to the Void. This is what allows them to use Voidmagic when not in their home, and if severed by a Twilit blow, will instantly rob them of all their Voidmagic. if this can be done while they are shapeshifting, they are doubly screwed, for they will be trapped in that in-between form. Finally, though this probably does not need saying, Voidmages love music...it reminds them of their former lives. The music of a woodwind or string instrument, or even an organ/piano can hypnotize them, stopping them in their tracks. Lastly, Voidmages grow weaker should they fall in love, though they are fircely loyal to those whom they love, either as friends or as a mate.

I thank you for the explanation, it helps when dealing with those who'd pull my tail without warning.

The cat hisses a warning, then turns and walks away, his tail held high. It is obviously his most prized physical attribute.

The cat immediately turns into a neko demon and lauches himself at the dragon, tackling him in mid-launch.

Not so defenseless as I look, eh, masura?

Neko laughs, neither an I, as his fur becomes like glass. You are fighting an oddly animated onyx neko demon.

Draco Alieris, the alloy dragons. Hanyou like him...don't even get me started.

Hey, you spend half an eternity as a statue and you learn something of the structure. It really isn't hard, once you get the knack, laughs Zel.

Your wings, my tail! Wails the neko in dismay. he carefully gathers up the pieces making certain he misses none, then looks at Austin. You wouldn't have a tube of superglue on you right now, would you?
