That is my biggest annoying thing ever. There is a freshman this year who has no idea what the word "musicality" means so not only does he play LOUD all the time but he puts all of his strength into it and hes a football player, he breaks strings ALL the time. Today he broke a brand new $28 vic firth mallet when he was playing on his shoe! WHY WOULD YOU PLAY ON YOUR SHOE WITH A BRAND NEW MARIMBA MALLET???? ... done venting now.

*wince*
I'm fortunate enough to have never broken a string. I'm only a fish...and weak. So yeah. I might get onto one of the front line marimbas next year. One of which is really retarded and has sharp edges that break the string all the time. Including once during a performance at region. Jeremy (the one who plays it now) had to perform emergency marimba surgery on it before we went to finals.

No, on our ancient marimba, the strings have never broke, but just about everything else on the instrument has. sweatdrop

lol Abi (the girl I share my Marimba with) and I break a string every week. Seriously. One week the top, next the bottom, and so on. We've started making a sport out of it.

actually, it's parachute chord. (yes, that's a pun) since my freshman year, i'm a senior, i've broken roughly eleven strings. then again, i can't remember some. for some reason, it always breaks between the B and C. c'mon, i don't even play B natural. sweatdrop

i think it depends on the type of mallet you're using. i know that my pit has broken more since we've started using tan shaft mallets. hmm... maybe we're just more energetic.

ratan actually has a stronger impact, meaning it's more likely to break string. which is why I broke three during marching season.

Bleh, I am! At senior night, I had to restring my marimba. The vibe player stole the lowest black key. It's so annoying!
