So I have a DA page? So people like to come on it and make fun of my work? Insinuate that it's sub-par? Ask me if I've had any practice or if I know anatomy? So that's NOT what the comment option is for. Discuss: -the meaning of the term "constructive criticism" -if you don't like it, don't look at it -just say what you're thinking rather than ask stupid roundabout questions on my comments page -other DA complaints

I'm currently hosting a contest in the ATG clan...
Wow, that's not cool. I have been lucky thus far, although I haven't checked my DA page in a while. I can see a bit of criticism, but...
...The prize is 5k. Why not swing by and check it out?

stare @$$h0les...
Seriously... People like that should just crawl back under whatever rock they crawled out from. :XP
I suppose you could always ask them to do it better (and if they actually can, tell them "How nice for you. Now leave me alone.") wink

Well, because it's art, I'm trying really hard to let them come up with their own thoughts on it, but I get comments like these: "... She scares me. The shadowing scares me. Especially on her right arm. crying " "You could flip a quarter onto her butt and it would STAY there. D8" "o_O yowza
is this your first side-shot drawing?"
I just don't see how that's feedback. It reads like mockery to me. I guess I could be a b***h and add a "Dear John" request for conctructive feedback only, but I kind of hoped that wouldn't be necessary.

I remember that being something I didn't like about DA. Not why I stopped keeping up with mine, but...I still didn't like it. I'd see too many people just saying "that's wrong" without explaining why or what the artist could do better, or what the artist did right, etc. If it's not constructive, it's worthless.

Seems to me that DA artists are either Internet royalty or total s**t, judging from their comment pages. I don't think that's what it was made for...

That's why I would never ever ever get a DA account. I would rather show my work to the ATG here because I know no one here... well maybe a few would say it looks like s**t, but most people here know how to give real feedback. We recently got a scanner, so I might dabble with that soon.

I was thinking about it at first, but I didn't want to seem like I was being conceited or copying Slim. I think you should, though. It'd be cool to have a "post your beautiful artwork" thread in which I know some of the people participating. biggrin

Like I said, the people of the ATG are really good at NOT being assholes about other's hard work.

I haven't found many instances of assholery in any form, to be honest.

@ GRM: Yeah, not by my definition of it, anyway. I mean, some possibly racy humor and discussion, but that's what this guild is for (by my understanding.) @ Waku: I know for sure there's one for Slim's work in CC, but I have no idea where to start looking. I guess I could scroll back when I have time to kill...
