At my school in the past like.. 3 years the bands been having trouble.
They had a AWESOME BD that had came and gotten them to getting 1's at marching contest. and just getting awesome awards. Hes a really great director. So my school had been known for being a great school and for having one of the greatest bands in my area.

Then next thing u know, like 3 years later he quits cause he didnt get a raise -.-''
Then the Assistant BD takes over, but she doesnt have enough.. strength to carry and hold the whole band. Shes just way to nice and just cant gain control. Shes the kind of director you joke with. So none of the kids could take her seriuosly if she got mad. So that year the band was just crazy.

Then the next year [the year i came in] we got all new directors, and everybodys still pissed at the first director who quit. Sooo most of the seniors and juniors try to take it out on the new directors. Nobody cares anymore about the band.. so they all play tricks and try to piss the director off and terrorizing the band room and everything. That marching season was horrible.

Now this year, all them seniors are gone. But we still have to work things out. We got a better scoring but still, nobody wants to take it seriously anymore :/ so now my school is not known for being the best, but for being the worst band in my area, and pretty much known for going downhill the quickest



Anyone ever have the same problems?

I'm a Freshman in my high school band. I heard stories from the Seniors that their Freshmen year was ok, then went down hill because they weren't acting like a family. But then their Junior year I think, something tragic happened. One of our drum line members died in a car accident just days before his graduation. Needless to say, it devastated the band.

But something good came out of it. The band was united again and started acting like a family. And we improved in everything dramatically. We didn't fight anymore, and we were getting along with everyone.

I guess what I'm trying to get at is that you should try to get your band to act like a family. Establish that when your at a band function, in the band room, or practicing on the field, you love every band member. It doesn't matter is you hate that flute player in math,(No offense to any) but in band, he/she is your brother/sister. And afterwords, you can go back to hating them. But for that moment, you love them.
