What was the funniest thing that has happened to you this season?
PostPosted: Sun Dec 21, 2008 7:42 am

Oh god...

A couple of deer jumped our field's fence and distraced the band when they walked on the back field.

Trombone suicides with Alex {Chub Scout/Picnic Boy- last years name for him by the drumline of course}, Rion {The BLASTER! you could hear him over the whole band 6 miles away}, and Alissandra {trombone now, ex-fluty} With a tempo from 80- 180 =} I was the human metronome!

THE DISTRUCTION OF DR. BEAT!

At state we got our highest ranking superior, well last year the announcer mixed us up with another band and we thought we had a superiour. Well we actually got an excellent. Okay, with that story you will now understand this.

"QUICK CCHS MARCHING BAND! RUN AWAY BEFORE THEY TAKE OUR SUPERIOUR AGAIN!"

Tenor Sax Corey walking around the mall at state with women's underwear over his dress pants. {yeah, band director was embarrased}

OH! Tenor Breanna, Tenor Leader Steffy, and French horn April buying fishies at walmart and putting them in the track hole filled with water.

I think this is about what I can remember. Season ended two months ago...

Alright. I'm a Freshman, but my brother's been in marching band for three years now (Yeah, he's a Junior). Of course I have to follow in that dork's footsteps, although I play alto sax and he plays trumpet.I really only have one thing I remember that was funny afterwords, but embarrassing at the same time.

At my very first competition we did, it was pretty hot outside, so we were given little water bottles. Yeeah, best not to give a forgetful alto sax player a little bottle of water, 'cause she'll stow it away in her bell so she doesn't have to actually carry it around. -_-
I ended up forgetting about the bottle and I marched the WHOLE SHOW without knowing my water bottle was in my bell. I found out after we left the field. None of the MB kids noticed, though a judge got close to me during the show two or three times...
But we DID get a rating of superior and 1st place in our division! >:3
So I call it my lucky water bottle.

But I still haven't told the upperclassmen about that incident yet... I wish I was a Senior so I could tell everyone for my Senior confessions at the band banquet, but all the upperclassmen will be gone by then. T^T

In the hotel at finals, a girl practicaly blew up in our bathroom! You could smell it outside the room and on our side of the hallway. We tried to get rid of it with body spray. But, it only made the room smell like cherryass!

I fell in love with the youngest members of the marching band.

We beat our rival Marching Band for the first time in many years.

Also, my band did a New Years day parade in Italy and were blessed by the Pope!

It was a good year.

My band made it all the way to State for the first time in 5A competition and this is our first year as a 5A band. It was funny because at area, we were all so anxious to hear our names be called to advance to state - they only accept 10 bands - and name after name kept getting called.

When they got to 3rd, our rival band was called and we were completely disappointed, thinking that if our rival band had been called and their show was pretty good, we probably wouldn't be called at all. (We have self-esteem issues that way. xd )

Anywho, we had at that point given up all hope. So we, all cool, were telling each other "Hey don't worry about it! We did our best! Nothing to be ashamed of!" all the while thinking 'Damn... We really suck... Our rival must've kicked our butts good...' when all of a sudden they call out 2nd place.

"Advancing to State in the area of 5A band competition... LOPEZ HIGH SCHOOL!!"

Needless to say, tears of joys were shed. That feeling will stay imprinted on our lives forever and it is an experience I will never forget.

We did competitive field show for the first time in ten years. Our first contest, we tanked. Did terribly.

There were about five weeks between our first contest, and our second and third contests.
Newton competition and Effingham competition were on the same day. Newton in the morning, Effingham that night. We're waiting for our chance on the field. We were nervous. Our normal talkers were actually telling people to hush. We went out and preformed. There were five bands in our class. When they called...third place HIGHLAND HIGHSCHOOL! We cheered like it was a first.

Effingham went much the same. Only the band on the field ahead of us was really good. We went out and preformed again. When we got off the field our director asked us how we felt and everyone said that it was our best preformance ever. Award time, tension was high (again) After calling the participation awards, our name wasn't called. A whisper went through our band, we had placed again! Another third place. Cheered like we would die if we didn't.

It was such a wonderful feeling to place at those competitions, even if it was a third. Some people asked us why so much cheering for a third place? Because we were so proud, so happy. Nothing else.

This year was our first time competing because my school's so new. We only have freshies and sophmores. But it was a BLAST! Various stories:

1. Our football field isn't finished yet, so we got to practice in pitch darkness during our weekly practices from 5-9. Ho-ly snap, that was some good fun...the goal during break was to kill whoever actually had the brains to bring a flashlight.

2. We did our first competition, and lost. 7th place out of 7. We sucked. But THEN, we did our second and last competition of the year, got 7th place out of 8. When they didn't announce our name first, you'dve thought we won sweepstakes. We were jumping and screaming all over the place!

We (low brass) had White Castle when everyone else had to practice during a stretch night :]

We did the dance in "remember the titans" at our last band competition.

One of our section leaders broke his trombone. I think everyone was on the floor laughing that day.

The freshies in band this year are amazing.
They're so cute and wonderful.

Firs tof all- The reason I believe I can be section leader: Section Leaders can't march any better then I, a freshman can, even though they are mostly seniors.

My section leader kept moving on a park and blow for two competitions. Then, right before state, I was run over by the flute section leader, while I was already running over a tenor because she was trying to run me over! Then she yelled at me. Because I was moving too slow question My foot was bleeding after those terrible sixteen counts of her marching on my foot quietly yelling at me to move faster until finally it ended with a nice trip by me, causing her and the tenor to fall tight when we were supposed to be doing horn pops. The bd stopped us and everyone stared at our pile o' woodwinds. Luckily, bd and tenor yelled at her istead of me. I said nothing and jsut walked back tot he water bottle, becaus eit was a water break. She didn't talk to me until afterowrds, when she got mad.

Then, at said state, we had our best performance after a season of straight excellents. It was the first time our school had gotten an excellent at the first competition. But, the awards came. Goods were called out. Not us, we all let out a small bit of breath. Excellents were called. Breath released angrilly. We did waay better then an excellent. You could hear people in the audience booing that decision. Superiors were announced. Only a few. We were steaming by this point, but our marching rival(not our sports rival, PV. This was Sabino) hadn't gotten called. we got our hopes up. for the first time we did better then them. Their marching sucked, but their playing was pretty good. Then, they had a superior with distinction. who did they call? Stupid Sabino! Angry outbursts and sad exclamations followed from our band. So they are calling out the special notice awards and of course, Sabino gets almost all fo them. Which do we get? None! Absolutely none! People were in tears. So on the paper sign the school drew, the seniors wrote superior over the Santa in Santa Rita. Our BD hung t up in our band room. Still thereXD

Anyway, drabble over...

well this was the night of state and we got ripped off because of the previous comp we got a superior w distinction but anyways we were all kinda bummed. but after we went to famous daves and packed the whole place. then we told the waitresses it was our BD's birthday (even though it wasnt) so they decked out a huge cake with sparklers and we all sang and pretty much disturbed everyone who wasn't in our band XD

Oh! i just forgot, it was our homecoming against one of our rival schools and there were streakers running on the field in the middle of our show! it was hilarious cause everyone was either grossed out or miffed cause they were so dumb. it was hilarious though since half of us didn't notice and the crowd just started wolf whistling and whatnot, heh we later figured out why. ><
