I wonder who still watches the parade, I only caught a glimpse of it this year. Do you think it's more for older people who still like parades or do young adults still watch them? I guess I don't find that they hold my interest as much as they used too.

My understanding is that it is to pimp out Santa on Turkey Day...make money for the stores and all so everyone wants in on the floats.
I don't really recall ever watching it on TV, I seemed to always be more interested in the food.

Kals is questing again! In Canada we don't have a parade on Thanksgiving -- most people celebrate it on the Sunday, not the Monday, and October is way too early for Santa! -- but we do have a Santa Claus Parade in Edmonton in the first weekend of December. They actually do it indoors, in the pedway so that no one like... dies of exposure since it might be -40 outside. PM for details!

What's the point? eek Are you kidding? The point is, just because it's fun. I mean, of course not everyone's gonna like the balloons and floats and things. But it doesn't really need a "reason". It's a fun tradition every year that makes a lot of people happy. The parade is one of my favorite things on Thanksgiving. I love seeing all the creative floats that they build. And the balloons are always so huge. It's just fun to watch that big party march itself through the city. 3nodding It brings joy and fun to a lot of people each and every year. That's the point.

Kals is questing again!Well, it's true! After all, this is Edmonton, not tropical Lethbridge or something! xd
I thought the point of the Macy's Parade was to remind people to start hardcore shopping the next day. PM for details!

Tropical...Lethbridge...*snickers* lol
It's downright balmy here on the East coast. (And I don't mean "Ontario" East.)
I've never watched the Macy's parade. I've never been much of a parade person, anyway, and I certainly wouldn't tune in to watch some American holiday's parade. blaugh
When I was little, I liked the Santa Claus parade at home. Mostly because of all the funny floats and the free candy canes.

Kals is questing again!Did you know they've passed laws in Alberta that forbid the throwing of candy and other items form parade floats? People have to walk around and give the candy to the kids. That sucks, half the fun of parades used to be the mad scramble to get the candy! PM for details!

Too dangerous? There was never much candy thrown during our Santa parade, it was all during the summer parade. THAT was a mad dash for candy. Dx I lost this here leg in the candy scramble of '87....*rambles on*

Kals is questing again!I think they were afraid the candy might hit a kid and someone would get sued or something stupid like that. PM for details!

Pelting folks with candy canes? o.O Oh you crazy Canadians...=P
As for me, I've never really been much for the parade. I've only ever watched like a handful of minutes of them. So yeah. If I'm spending thanksgiving with just my parents and my brother, we usually have a movie lined up after dinner =P And if I'm with my extended family--grandparents, aunts, uncles, the whole shebang--then we're usually off conversing and doing other stuff to worry about some silly parade =P
