In a fitting random stroke of tie-breaking chance for Halloween the winning subject for our photo contest is....

insects!

That's right, those creepy crawly/flying buggers that are all around us. As others have said, this may be a bit of a challenge given the time of year, but I trust you to be creative. Don't feel limited to photographing actual live, bugs. wink

Going with Dakota's rules from the last contest just to be fair:

dakotarayne
Go ahead and stage the picture anyway you want, but no photo editing is allowed for this contest. (Besides Cropping and Sizing) This contest will be our Icebreaker! We will go on the honor system, trusting that your pictures were taken during the contest period.

Since we got started a little late, I figure this contest can run a little over into November.

===~~====
Deadlines!
===~~===

{Begins:} October 30th (Thursday)
{Ends:} November 11th (Sunday)

===~~===
Prizes!!
===~~===

{1st Place:} 3000 Gold
{2nd Place:} 1500 Gold
{3rd Place:} 1000 Gold

...and since the time frame is a little shorter, maybe we'll add in extra incentive, eh? wink How about...

Everyone who participates will get one Halloween themed gift!

Get snapping!

Hey! As it happens, I took a photo including an insect for a photography assignment this semester! I'm doing analog photography, so sometimes my scanning leaves the photos a little crooked, but hopefully it'll look okay...do I just post it in this thread?

Oh, oops! Just reread the rules, and I can't enter that photo, I took it a month or so ago...

I was looking for ideas and found this pic. I couldn't help myself - had to share it.

Drats!
I had some really awesome pictures of the cutest caterpillar I've ever seen taken a good two months or so ago.
Guess I'll have to go insect hunting...

I was gardening this afternoon and came across the reason why all Australians should wear gloves while in the garden :

My photography isn't the best...but I wasn't about to move her - she's one of the biggest redback spiders I have ever seen.

*Edit* I thought I'd just add some Redback Facts :
Redback spiders are not aggressive, and rarely leave the web. However caution is advised as their bite is very poisonous and potentially fatal for children or the elderly.

After a bite, the onset of pain may be delayed for five minutes then increase in intensity. Subsequent symptoms vary but have included:

*nausea
*vomiting
*abdominal or generalised pain
*sweating
*restlessness
*palpitations
*weakness
*muscle spasm
*fever

Anyone bitten by a redback spider should seek medical attention.

Do not bandage the bite but apply iced water and take simple painkillers. (Unlike snake bites, a pressure-bandage increases the pain too much and is therefore not recommended as first-aid treatment)

An antivenene is available and is very effective.
