I figured that EVERYONE loves animals, so why not teach them some animals in japanese?
neko (cat) inu (dog) kingyo (goldfish) sakana (fish im not sure if it counts for pet fish too) kaeru (frog) ahiru (duck) kawausa (otter) azarashi (seal) usagi (rabbit) tako (octopus) shimauma (zebra, litterally 'striped horse') tori (bird) harinezumi (hedgehog) tanuki (raccoon dog) shika (deer) uma (horse) kuma (bear) kitsune (fox) buta (pig) nezumi (mouse) araiguma (raccoon) gacho (goose) minku (mink) robusuta (lobster) tokage (lizard) mushi (insect) otamajakushi (tadpole) katatsumuri (snail) niwatori (chicken) hiyoko (chick)
For baby animals, add 'ko' in front of their names and youre usually all set, but not always. (koneko, koinu, kouma, kobuta)
I'm adding more, but if you know any extras post them and I'll add them to the list!

A "baby frog" is a tadpole, which is otamajakushi in Japanese. ^^
Katatsumuri is snail, while dendenmushi is a sort of cutesy name for a snail. Sort of like calling a dog a "bow wow," I guess.
Niwatori is chicken and hiyokko is chick. heart

Wow, good idea! I'm not sure how useful animal names are in Japanese but vocab words are vocab words and they're fun too. 3nodding

I noticed at the end of your post that, when talking about baby animal's, you can usually just add Ko to the begining, but I was wondering if there Is a way you can tell weather or not you DO add ko-, or does it vary?
Sorry if this is a Silly question... n n;;

I was wondering, if it's not to much trouble, if pronuciations could be added along with the vocab sweatdrop . So I, and anyone else, knows they are speaking correctly. Thank you! 3nodding

Others:
Monkey = saru Cow/ox = ushi *Dragon/seahorse = ryuu/tatsu Boar = inoshishi
*I'm using the zodiac to help me remember more animals and in the zodiac, the word for the year of the dragon is "tatsu" which is technically a seahorse, but seahorses are thought to be baby dragons. **Within the zodiac, the word tori also signifies the Year of the Rooster.
Non-zodiac related ---------------------- Pheasant = kiji
