Do you think Pluto should still be a scout, though Pluto's "not a planet"?

While reading a Sailor Moon manga (YES, I OWN IT. I read it as a kid because I couldn't watch the series as much as I liked when I was kid when I first started out as an anime fan), a few questions built in my head about Sailor Pluto:

1. Can Sailor Pluto still yell "Pluto Planet Power!", much less still be a Sailor Scout? (this one's more for fun xD)

2. If in mythology, Pluto is Lord of the Underworld (Hades of course), why not make Sailor Pluto the evil one instead of Sailor Saturn?

3. I don't know if this was in the anime (I'm betting not), but the Queen told Pluto that there were 3 taboos that she couldn't break when she was a kid, and one of them was to "never stop time and space." What's the point of having the Garnet Rod if it'll kill her when she stops time?! D<

4. Lastly, the anime doesn't have any darker colored characters, yet originally Pluto was of darker color. When I first saw her, "Indian" popped into my head and I don't know why o_O

If any other questions pop up into my head, I'll post them D:

The word technically shouldn't be scout. It should be senshi or soldier.

Pluto is still technically a planet, even though it's only a dwarf planet. Plus, I guess Sailor Moon is set in the 90's (when it was published) back when Pluto was considered a planet. Her name probably doesn't contribute much to her level of power anyway, otherwise Sailor Moon wouldn't be as powerful as Sailor Jupiter, for example. Those are my thoughts on the first question anyway. ^^

MidBossVyers: Senshi is from the Japanese. I just stuck to "Scout" because most people call 'em Sailor Scouts

Cheremy: I know Sailor Moon was aired in the 90's, (according to wikipedia scheduling anyway). And last I heard, Pluto wasn't a planet because the scientists said so @_@ But whatever

If it technically should be senshi, then why even translate any of it to English? =/

My guess is "scout" is the closest word they could come up with to cover it.

The closest word is soldier, as I have written above. The full title of Sailor Moon is Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon, or in English: Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon.

Pluto is a planet, but it has been reclassed as a "dwarf planet". It's a little difficult to explain so, as a complete astronomy geek, you'll have to take my word for it XP

The image of Sailor Pluto as a darker woman is very interesting indeed. I think it's less of an issue figuring out her nationality (she could be Indian, African, or just dark Japanese etc). and more of an issue figuring out why Naoko Takeuchi decided to pale her up (o__O??)

Pft, I'm still calling pluto a planet - forget NASA.

Hm, the show does seen to rely heavily on greek mythology - as far as names go. But seeing as the characteristics of the named characters don't exactly (I think) correspond with their mythological counterparts (in mythology Selene wasn't always so nice either), I'm not sure it matters. It is an interesting question to pose though. And I don't think Pluto was necessarily evil so much as anti-social and contrary.

The idea of an indian/darker scout is highly interesting. They really should have kept it - there's too few multi-cultural characters in anime. . .

And I'm assuming the point would be to have it on hand if there's ever a dire situation and she needs to stop time and die or else the whole world will. Or maybe the writer's just "forgot" that bit. I haven't actually seen the entire series, so. . . >>;

Cheremy: When I first saw her, like, back when I was 14, I was like "ZOMG!" and a friend of mine who knew like every episode of Sailor Moon and I were discussing Pluto, and I just said she looked Indian for reasons unknown. I really wasn't trying to figure a nationality out, it just popped into my head >_>

Starthatshines: I still think of it as a planet too, I was talking about their standards...or whatever >_>

Anyway, I don't actually know much about Selene, I know more about the gods and goddesses of the Earth and whatnot. I was just wondering about Pluto and Saturn's counterparts since the others seem to have powers that (for the most part) deal with the mythological counterparts.
And the part where Pluto "stops time and dies" only happens in the manga once. I haven't seen it in the series unless DIC cut something out...

Yeah, it not being a planet messed up the little memory thing. . .<3

And hrm. . .I don't think Pluto in mythology could stop time. He could go invisible with the aid of a helmet though. : D
I really need to watch all the series. . .

I still consider Pluto a planet despite what the scientists say. Saturn's god counter part is Kronos: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cronus that'll tell you what you need to know about him.

PSST: I like your Anubis/Shuten look ( hope i remembered the right names)
