The price of gas is skyrocketing and I am about to break my parents (who provide gas money for me) with all of my driving. Just driving to places like work and the grocery store is awful! xp So, I thought that we could share the prices for the "cheap" gas for where we live.
Currently, in Birmingham, AL, gas is $3.83 per gallon.

Dang... Well, that's a little better than here in SE Kansas. Here, it's $3.89 the last time I drove by a gas station. Cheaper in NE Oklahoma by 20 cents... :XP:

Working close to home is suddenly a priority. We might not be able to go on vacation this summer due to gas prices and hospital bills. xp I remember when I was in high school filling up my gas tank with $15. I long for those days... When gas was hovering around $1 per gallon...

I don't know what the gas prices are here in central Oklahoma. I don't have a car yet -- and I'm lazy and haven't even gotten my full license yet, driving intimidates me -- so I don't pay attention to them that much. XD I'll make a note to check next time I'm in the car.

What do you mean? Do you just have a driver's permit or are you on a graduated license system? They were supposed to start one in Alabama 5 years ago, but they haven't as far as I can tell.

Gas is horrible just about everywhere... and I drive a car that's not gas efficient, and it isn't running properly so it's using more gas. No job so I can't get it fixed and soon no gas too look for employment. this is a no win circle.

south bay, ca $4.29 at a station i passed this morning, but that's the regular stuff. i'm nicer to my car.
seeing as how gas has gone up like nearly doubled in a year, the more important thing to focus on is a solution.

They were supposed to start one in Alabama 5 years ago, but they haven't as far as I can tell. I have a driver's permit. I could technically go and apply for my driver's test to get the real thing now if I wanted, but I haven't been driving in a while. I need to go out a couple of times before I do. >>"

Good luck on your driver's test whenever you take it! biggrin My dream is to not own a car. This might sound weird, but I have never liked cars at all. The problem with most places in the US is that homes/businesses are too far apart. Everyone has to have a huge yard and lots of parking places. I would love to live in a city (or any of the towns in Europe where this applies) where you can just leave your home and walk around to get what you need. I am a big supporter of walking or using public transportation. But for where I live, we don't have bus routes and everything is so far apart that driving is a necessary evil. xp On a happier note, I heard about a car that Voltswagon is making that will allow 230 miles to the gallon. I heard that it will be a tiny two seater car (with the passenger behind the driver) and that it will be released in 2010. I want one.

That sounds like an awesome car. And if you aren't driving anyone around, you can use the passenger seat to store your things! XD

It's all about fuel effeciency these days. I wonder if the price of gas will drop much after the war is over. Somehow, I have a feeling that it should end within the next two years. I just hope that I am right. Speaking of that! (I know that this should be in the politic thread, but bear with me.) Did you hear about the book that the former White House press secretary wrote? It is all over the news. Finally, they admit that the war in Iraq was a scam! I want to read that book! xd

war, scam, whatever, it's not going to be the main factor in price two years from now anyway. one major reason now is the simple fact the america is losing it's stronghold on international oil sources. other countries are rising the ranks and are now serious competitors. simple econ - supply and demand.
fuel is also simply not a renewable resource. keep using it and it'll run out. i've read that some technologists are optimistic that something will replace oil technology before accessible supplies are exhausted.
