I really REALLY want to be in a band, but I don't know where to get one. Can people tell me how they accieved so wonderful a thing, and give me some advice?
Probably there aren't any bands that want a singer/oboeist/recorderist/sometimes lyracist, but I'm trying. And I'd ask my friends to join, but they're all singers too.

if all u got are singers and u want to form a band (what kind? an indie or commercial band?), of course u need to get ppl of other instruments. do u want to be band leader or u just want to participate in a band? coz these affect a lot in the things to be done. if u are going to be leader, being a singer is already enough, next u have to get ur players, find them on internet, this guild.
you can visit ur local indie studio and watch a few small band shows performed there. most people who watch are rockers, u can simply ask some of them to join u. if not at band show, simply find the ppl using the band rooms there, they'd mostly be intersted if they aren't in a band already (some ppl do play for several bands, but i wouldn't encourage u to be in several bands).
if u just wanna join one, it's easy, and similar to above, but only ask those who aren't in a band yet (most formed bands already have a good singer that they wouldn't want to be taken over, and it's rare to see oboes/recorders in a rock band since digital effects can simulate their sounds).
these are my advice as an experienced rocker, hope they can help you.
(also, school, if u are in one, is a good community to find players)

if you got friends that know how to play instruments tell them or put up a post in school or in your neighborhood or just think of people you could get along with and maybe you can start a band emo

Go to you're local music, and ask if they have a board so you can post band members needed ads.
Or go to a popular music scene.
Just post things like what are you looking for in a band, the style, everything you want to make a dream band project.
joinmyband.co.uk is an awesome ad website where you can post any ad in your area.

(also, school, if u are in one, is a good community to find players) Ray, that was some good advice, but the idea of setting out to be either underground or commercial is just CONVOLUTED. That's a horrible mindset for a band. Personally, I go to local shows, hook up with the bands, talk to them about people they know/have heard of. I met my last drummer AND bassist in high school (when I was IN school,) but that was 4 years ago in a stagnant metalcore scene. Friends, friends of friends, and their family are the best places to START looking. And good luck

There are a lot of ways, go to a local Guitar Center or other store and ask if they have a board for posting ads, though it sounds somewhat lame the myspace music classifieds are great, I posted on there once for fun and was picked up by a really great metal band, that was about a year ago and I've since moved on, but still there are a lot of oppertunities. Go to shows and chat it up with other bands, friends, friends of friends. Lol the options are limitless, just have to get creative biggrin

If all you have are singers then you can STILL start a band it's just called "rock-appela"

There is no "true" way to start a band.. Me and my brother just had an idea of a thrashing guitar and a distorted punk voice singer dude (me) and a bassist/drummer (my brother)
We just sat down and started playing random s**t and we got better and better.. so far the group of me and him have been together for about a year.. we've had no venues or anything..
Just do whatever you think is best and i think you'll be fine... xD
