The drumline has had the most drama (drum-a, haha) in the band. We even have more than the flag girls and they are the ones that usually fight like no other.

Okay, it started back in May. A guy that was an upcoming Junior (which is what I was, we are really close friends since we're the only ones in the drumline in the junior class) but he was going to be the drum captain over the girl that was an upcoming Senior. She then made a huge statement that she didn't get it cause she was a girl. And she was a better leader and everything. Things got so twisted since then. Our band director then had a talk with the drum captain (the Junior) and I. He appointed me co-captain cause I can get along with everyone - I help the drum captain - and besdies, I'm a girl and it quickly shut the girl up about the girl statement. And now she rambles how he hates her cause she's a senior.

So a little while after that, we had huge bass drum issues, and we still do.

My hopes of the bassline were to have a tall one, (everyone in the bassline now is over 6'0", including me. I'm 6' 1", I'm the shortest one in the bassline too..the tallest guy is about 6'4") This midget girl, who was 4'1" wanted to join, horrible player, bad attitude, and she had the knack of making up the stupidest excuses. I didn't want her in my line. I protested to the band director daily. The only reason why she was there is cause our first bassist (a 6'2" guy) was at a college summer school type thing : Upward Bound. And he didn't get to come the week we started practices. She got the attitude that she was going to lead us and be the boss over me. This is my second year leading the bassline and the drum instructor loves me and wants me to continue until I graduate. So I ask the band director for an alternative, and he said that we would have a "Bassline-Off" at band camp the following week.

It's the following week, we have 5 people trying out for 4 spots. The girl with an attitude gets the drum. The guy I wanted to get the drum, doesn't get it. Cause he messed up his marching a bit. I wanted to be the only girl in the bassline. I cry with as the guy (who I'm best friends with) on the bass drum in front of me tries to comfort me, and the other guy comforts me as well. I told them after I stopped for a few minutes and said, "I'm going to put on a show and see if anyone feels bad."

We go to where the band is, I am CRYING my eyes out. I'm doing the best I can conviencing the girl that she made me feel bad. And all this stuff. I had my best friend on the verge of tears. We were all complaining - the drumline.

Eventually she did get off. She felt bad for me cause I got so attached to the guy that was kicked off. He was the drum behind me, fourth drum, I'm third. I wanted him to be there cause I loved him as a friend. Well after band camp, things seemed perfect, until school started.

School starts, the guy I saved his butt and was able to play on the bassline again rather than the cymbals....doesn't show up to practices. He picked up a new addiction: smoking. smoking anything he can. He stinks really bad and doesn't understand why I'm so upset at him for missing practices. He's obviously the worst marcher not only on the drumline, but on the field. He can't even hit the first beat of every measure consistantly. And what's making me so upset is that he doesn't even care one bit. He just shrugs his shoulders and keeps messing up.

Now, my best friend, this was his first time on the bass drum, he was in the pit last year doing timpany, and hated it, so he tried out on the bass drum and made it. He was doing as good as any other marcher/player was doing on the drum. He's better than the cocky first drummer. And I love it. But the guy behind me..well, I want him off.

Everyone on the line wants him off. I don't want him to be replaced, the guy that would replace him smokes a lot and misses practices. The other guy, the same, and there is one girl but she hates band. I want someone dedicated. The director has asked me to memorize all his music. And I do play it for him. But the director doesn't have the heart to kick him off the line - but I do. I want him off. I know I will cry because I've become so attached to him. But I am tired of dealing with him everyday. On drumline practices, I spend 20minutes looking for him. Cause people say, "Oh! I saw him!" And he tells me that morning that he promises to be at the practices.

Last straw? Or is it just me overreacting?

He knows he is close of being kicked off...but doesn't care a bit.

..Dude. Everyone should have a chance to be on a drumline. Instead of crying over having other girls in the bassline, get over that petty little problem, and focus on the real ones. Come on now. Crying over a gender? That's for middle schoolers. Honestly, I don't see -how- you got co captain, not letting people join because they're shorter then you. stare

4'1" is a bit short tho, you should of put her on 4th drum. our whole bassline are girls and 1/2 of the snares are girls, last year the whole drumline was girls. And if im not mistaken isnt battery the same thing as drumline? (ive allways seen the winterline stuff say "battery and pit"

It wouldn''t have affected me, it was just who she was - has a bad attendance rate and has the tendancy to make up the most bazarr excuses. I couldn''t exactly work with her cause she thought she knew everything. I get along better with guys - mainly why I wanted them on there. The girls in our drumline are very hard headed except the girl on quints. I am hard headed at times. But at my school guys get the message about 10 times quicker than a girl does.

Some people like the whole drumline. Rather than instruments. I got excited and forgot to mention pit, my apologizes.

She couldn't carry the 4th drum. We have an all girl snare line (4). And have a girl in each section. And we have only 2 girls in pit. So over all we have 9girls. I just get along better with guys. Girls don't like what I have to say to them. Because their life consists of ponies and stuff in my line. I just don't like the selection of people. We tried four different people on the last drum but none of them are good. They all have a pretty bad attendance rate, and they all smoke. Which the band director doesn't really like smokers...

Wow, I really wish my friends and I were in a bigger school.

There's a total of 10 of us in the Drumline; 4 Basses, 3 Snares, 2 Quads, and 1 Cymbals. We're all best buds, and the Freshman that try out get to know us really fast. I guess having a smaller group makes it easier to stay calm when someone annoying comes along, because a majority vote from everyone on Drumline can kick someone off here. ninja We threw that into the rules last year, to get rid of God's "gift" to the Drumline; the world's worst, yet cockiest drummer in the history of the world. He can't even play straight quarter notes on beat, and thinks he should be playing Snare or Quads... sweatdrop Got kinda off track...

We wish there were more people on Drumline, so everyone should come up to Rigby, Idaho this Friday with their drum. Make our all-Drumline homecoming halftime show worth watching...

Please?

Ha, I like being in a small school. There's an eight person Drumline here, and we wouldn't want it any other way. All the drummers are good friends, and .. actually, everyone in band is friends with everyone else. Most of us sit at three combined tables at lunch. 3nodding
On our drumline, we have three basses, two snares, one quad, and two cymbals. Next year, we'll probably have .. hmm.. hold on. Let me figure this out.
Me - Snare
Mau - Snare
Dani - Snare
Jeanne - Quads
Justin - Quads
Rachel - Bass
Matt - Bass
Kyle - Bass
Quentin - Cymbals
...Yeah, that's probably going to be it. Trevor's going to graduate this year! Nuu! crying

As fun as it is to only have a small Drumline, you can't really do as much as you could with a bigger group. But we switch instruments in the middle of shows, I've never seen a big Drumline do that. Drove the crowds crazy...

I know about the whole drama of drum-line, the beginning of this year was lethal.

I seriously don't think it's that big of a deal. Who cares if you want a tall bass-line? Or to be the only girl?

Everyone should have a chance to be on the line. I'm seriously against kicking people off the line unless they did something really horrid.

We've got a pretty small line, just-right I'd say:

5 snares.
2 cymbols.
2 quads (technically they're quints but...).
1 bell.
and
4 bass'. (That's where I am!)

I'm gonna have to back up Ayako, here.. Really, this girl is really not very easy to get along with. The drumline is much better off without her there. The bass line is incredible. Well, maybe with the exception of the 4th drum....

And I wouldn't say you guys have more drama then us just yet... Something tells me that it's just lurking in the shadows and is gonna jump out at us any second... I can feel some major tension in the guard right now.. And I really don't wanna get involved with it, but I'm afraid I might have to.. I'm even more afraid that I may have caused some of it.. Unintentionally, of course.. But it still happened.. But, yeah..
