So I have been thinking. We need a place where we can all go to discuss political topics!
So feel free to bring up whatever points are gnawing at you in the current politics and let's talk about it and maybe even learn a thing or two from each other!
One thing I'm curious to know, is what everyone things of the currently running democratic elections. Who would you like to win the nomanation- Hillary or Obama, and why?
As for me, I think I'm going to vote Obama. He seems to be radical enough to instill some positive change, and I like the fact that his campaign is funded by the people and not corporate sponsorship. He seems... honest. As foreign a description as that seems for any politician. rofl

I am suddenly not sure who I want to win... I would just like to see someone win at this point. In any case, I just hope that the war ends and that No Child Left Behind is done away with.

LOL! Amen to that chibi!
DD, why is Hilary going to win your vote? Everyone I've talked to lately is thoroughly opposed to her, saying that she seems like any other corrupt politician.

I would also like to see gas prices drop. It is currently about $3.65 per gallon for the cheapest gas. And to think! Just a few years ago it was about a dollar! I would also like to see the value of the dollar increase. The exchange rate is definitely not in our favor when visiting countries like England and Japan. Then again, we wouldn't have this problem if we actually did something about the national debt other than increasing it! The last attempt to balance the budget and decrease the national debt was when Bill Clinton was still in office. Sometimes I wonder so much junk could have happened in 8 years... xp

To answer your question Mira,
Washington is a game. Barack just doesnt know the rules yet. Hillary's years of sentatorial experience and her years as a politically active first lady give her the edge. It also doesn't hurt that she's married to a former president who is going to be there to aid and advise her at all times.
1 term as a senator doesn't make you a good candidate for president. We need someone who can handle a challenge, because the first term of whom ever is president is going to be facing a lot more than presidents of yesteryear.

I know what you mean Chibi. I just can't imagine how that is possible. The scientists who study oil have been warning of something like this being on the verge of happening for years. And it is a bit depressing to see the dollar drop so much in value too. I know it fluctuates a lot no matter what, but I don't remember it being so low before. There's just so much going on with the American economy right now...
On the topic of the campaign, as I understand it from the news I've been watching and the bits I've read, it looks like it's almost impossible for Hillary to win the democratic nomination now.
I understand what you mean about her though DG, that was my main rational when the campaigns first began. But I'm just... I don't know. As you said, it's all a game, and I'm SICK of it. It doesn't seem like a game that has won the American public any victories in way too many years. I'm ready for someone to come and shake things up. Even though Obama doesn't have the experience that Hillary or the rest of the candidates have, don't you think there is a possibility that he could bring a fresh way of viewing things to the table and maybe even a better approach? Maybe because of his "inexperience" with the system, he's also less likely to be beholden to any of the corrupt companies that have so many of our politicians in their pockets. I am a little worried about his plan for universal health care though. Hillary seems to have a better idea of how to implement it and get it into action, although admittedly I haven't done a whole heck of a lot of research into the subject.

Maybe he could just copy England and Canada? I agree that it looks like Obama is going to win. He is already turning his attention to McCain. I just hope that the everyone is smart enough to get Obama elected if he does end up winning the nomination. I don't think that I could stand another presidency like Bush's.

Huh... in my opinion choosing between Hilary and Obama is like choosing the lesser of two evils. Obama doesn't appeal to me and DD pretty much summed it up for me.
Going back to the two evils thing... that opinion of mine revolves around our nation's image towards other countries. Before I actually continue, I want everyone to know now that I'm not trying to be sexist or racist or anything so yeah.
The obvious: Both candidates are controversial -- you have a woman and an African American with possible Islamic/Muslim background [Kenya is composed of mainly Islamic/Muslim cultures/religions].
Obama: Even though it's just a possibility and all, people can still push and pull at him and corrupt him in that manner. He does get a lot of support from them -- he just doesn't acknowledge it due to the political negativity that revolves Islam/Muslims.
Hilary: Image wise, other countries just don't seem to be accepting of female leaders yet. It's sad, I know, but it's a running trend in US history for "other ethnicity" to advance first before "female gender". There are a couple of female leaders in other countries though... however, some of them lead very corrupted governments and that just doesn't help! In other words, theres a possibility of other countries looking down on the US just because of female presidency.
8D My choice would go for Hilary though. She seems more of a safer choice to me. However... seeing as how things are going with the Obama-mania, my vote will be given to McCain if Obama becomes nominated.
[I seriously just don't like him. He gives me bad vibes. My English teacher made us listen to one of his speeches... they're great and all and use all 3 modes of persuasion, but speeches are just words until implemented -- I don't see it happening. And like I said... they are made to simply persuade.
(start outrageousness)
8D My "outrageous" comment about him is that he is the anti-Christ because of his magnetic personality, overpowering charisma, and sharp tongue that spawns many persuasions... and lol his senior adviser's name resembles Mabus from the Prophecies of Nostradamus of who dies and becomes the catalyst of an extreme degree of change involving wars and whatnot. XD It makes me laugh even more because of his whole Obama for Change advertisements... The funnier part is, theres a whole bit in the prophecies about the "elder one" is supported and brought to power and whatnot... of who of course resembles McCain the most.
I'd end up going on and on about this but I'll end there lol.
(end outrageousness)]
Yep! 8D I'm not that into politics so eh, if it's offensive to anyone I'm sorry -- however it's nothing but my opinion, label it insignificant and petty if you feel like it.

That is so weird! I have heard theories about Obama as the anit-Christ before too! But, I have not heard the same arguments. I heard that Nostradamus predicted that he would come wearing a blue turban. If you think about it, the democratic party is represented by the color blue. You could also tie the turban thing into Islam. On top of that, the Mayans predicted that the world will end in 2012. Kind of creepy, huh? For my own sake, I hope that the world doesn't end so soon. I want to experience many things in life before I'm gone.

XD It's ridiculousness after I found out about the 2012 theories and stuff compared to my dream XD;;;

If Obama wins the nomination then I'll probably be forced to vote for him.
I don't know if I think Obama is the anti-Christ, but being a great speech writer is not going to fix the debt problems that this country is having.
As far as the women in power issue, England has had Margret Thatcher, Finland has had the lady president who looks like Conan O'Brien, and Benazir Bhutto would have been the prime minister of Pakistan.
Women in positions of power might enrage some, but so would having a "African American"... (he's not fully black so that's why there are quotation marks)

Clinton is who I'd like to see. Every bill that President Bill Clinton put into action Hillary backed up for one exception, the no child left behind bill (she never fully supported that bill) And the mexican border free trade act that has brought the american dollar down so much. She told Bill what would happen, Bill just couldn't see that far into the future, not many can he was just trying to help the situation now. He was probably by far the best president we have had in a long time. Yeah sure his morals might have been screwed up, but we don't need good morals in the white, we need a good president. Bill was a extremely good president, and his wife learned a lot from him when she was there. She then took that knowledge on to be senator and has done a damn good job of it. Obama, he says he's for change, yet he has yet to release that I know of, any sort of plan that will better our future in America. Clinton on the other hand has released a plan that could work and could help fix and reverse the great depression that we're heading for. Obama hasn't done anything but rally as much money as possible as well as supporters by saying "change". That doesn't work for me, I want to see what he's going to be changing first. And so far it doesn't seem much. "Mr. Obama whats your plan for the future of america" Obama: "Change!" *crowd cheers* "Mr. Obama what about the war in Iraq" Obama: "Change!" "Mr. Obama I see you've been saying that you will change many things in the way the country is ran, what exactly do you plan to do? " Obama; *pauses, looks left, looks right* "Change!"

Obama-mania... the plague that has run among weak minds easily persuaded by dynamic words. O.o I totally agree.
The sad part is he gets the younger voters so easily -- college kids are so stupid [people here at my college piss me off because of their stupid signs and graffiti about voting for Obama with their reason being the single word "Change". It's so stupid.]
Pft. If anything he'd work best as a movie promoter critic... all dynamic words -- replace the deep voiced guy with him.
@DD: Women and other-ethnicities enrage people alot, I said that -- however, I was also trying to say that its typical for people to bring the other-ethnicity to power first before accepting the idea of women in power.

I know what you mean. There is a huge Obama following at my college eventhough it is a women's college. On the other hand, there is almost no support for Hilary. Weird... It is almost eerie how people follow him so easily. I have always been a been unnerved by him. Plus, back to the 2012 end of the world thing, the Earth's magnetic poles are supposed to shift again in 2012 (they do this periodically), but this is supposed to be the big one. I heard that the magnetic shift will knock out technology involving magnets in half of the world. But back to No Child Left Behind, I am pretty sure that it is a piece of legislation from George W Bush. It is coming up for a vote soon (not sure when) to renew it or drop it. I hope that it is dropped. It feels so refreshing to talk politics with open minded people! xd
