and there was something in the news about the cracker factory not being able to manufacture enough...hm. Mild panic!

There's more than one brand of matzah. Personally, I prefer the Israeli brand of matzah, Yehuda, over the American brand, which almost all of my other Passover stuff is- Manichevitz.

Manichevitz products are sold in Australia and Canada too...they must have a monopoly. eek
I guess people could always bake their own matzah.

Nah, there are a few other brands, but they're not anywhere NEAR as widespread. Manichevitz is just the biggest company.
And maybe, if they knew all the laws... the process is VERY tightly controlled.
