I have a friend who believes that everyone in this world is bisexual. She raises a valid point, saying that girls like girls sometimes, looking at their bodies and coveting them. And she says that guys do the same thing. But I don't agree on the inside. I think thats its a lifestyle choice whether you want to be straight, bisexual or gay. I don't think its fair that everytime I tell someone I'm straight, she butts in and tells them that I'm bisexual. Its my choice, right? I don't like girls in that way, and I never will. Not that there's anything wrong with that, its just not the way I swing.
What do you guys think?

For one, it really isn't a lifestyle choice. neutral One really does not have any control of which sexuality they turn out to be. Most professionals agree that it's to do with a mixture of biology, psychology, and environmental factors, apparently. (I looked up an article.) But, no, in my opinion, not everyone in the world is bisexual. Sure, since society is less condemning/more open about sexuality than it used to be, it's likely that more people will identify as homosexual or bisexual than they would have in the past, but the vast majority of people seem to be heterosexual. Also, I believe that there are varying degrees of sexuality, for example, I would say that I'm bi, but I mostly prefer males. However, that's merely my opinion.
To be honest, I'd say the way your friend is acting would be highly irritating. rolleyes Being straight is just how you are, and she should accept that. Forcing a personal theory on someone is rather rude.

I know what you're saying, I guess I just randomly assumed that being bi was a lifestyle choice, but I knew that being gay was biological or something like that.
I agree with you about her being irritating. It really pisses me off, no offense to her. She's extremely pushy about it and it gets worse every time the subject is brought up...
Thanks for your input though, I really appreciate it. And if anyone else has some advice or opinions, please share! ><

We’re the regulators that de-regulate I don't think true bisexuality really exists. I think lots of people call themselves that, but they tend to lean one way or the other. Me, I'm gay. Not saying it's impossible that I couldn't fall in love with the opposite sex, it's just unlikely. Most 'bisexuals' lean towards one gender, see? I've never read/met/seen one that truly liked both sexes exactly the same. I envy that person. xD
At the lifestyle choice thing, well... you can't just wake up and decide to be Mexican, like you can't just wake up and decide to be gay. It's not exactly something you've got control over.
However, your friend is being an a**. Pushing your beliefs on others will never turn out good.

I sort of agree with what she says... I'm not sure I agree with her saying you're bisexual, though; it's your decision, you should choose how you answer for yourself. As for the 'lifestyle choice' thing - I'm not sure whether I agree or not. Wow, I really am undecisive... sweatdrop I don't think anyone can stop themselves being what they are. Wait... I'm contradicting myself now. gonk I haven't had nearly enough sleep recently...
Maybe if I put it this way - everybody should have the right to choose who they are, if they actually have a choice, most of the time it can't be helped. Not everyone is bi, but some people who just assume they're straight (or gay, whichever) might be.

We’re the animators that de-animate The thing is, I agree that it's doubtful that very many, or perhaps even any, people are truely bisexual, if you were to, say, take a scale of 0 to 10 with 0 being heterosexual and 10 being homosexual, and "pure bisexuality" being a 5. However, personally, I do feel significantly attracted enough to females to believe I am not straight. However, neither am I gay. Also, identifying as bisexual is a lot easier than saying "Well, I'm not quite straight, but I'm not quite gay, either", if I'm not mistaken. XD (Just for heavens sake do not ask me to comment on pansexuality, asexuality, etc. I haven't the foggiest. sweatdrop )

@PrettyPink: YES it does exist. Get over yourself.
@Topic:
It's not a choice your sexuality. But yeah. It's not a lifestyle choice. The only choice in sexuality is your acceptance of it. Sadly there are those who implode upon themselves due to being raised in hatred for homosexuals. sad That is a lifestyle choice that affects the sexuality. But normally even self infliction doesn't change anyhing.

Lady Gyrfalcon Just for heavens sake do not ask me to comment on pansexuality, asexuality, etc. I haven't the foggiest. sweatdrop Everyone being pansexual makes more sense to me. Should gender even matter, anyway? Everyone being asexual would just end up killing the entire human race - even though I've thought I was asexual up until very recently (two weeks ago sweatdrop ), not I'm not so sure. Even if some people really shouldn't have been born, it's not exactly my place to decide that, though... stare

But, hypothetically, I think gender shouldn't matter as much as it does. Personality is a much greater factor for me... But social views seem to be very shallow, especially if you look at the fashion industry and whatnot. As for asexuality killing the human race, well, the earth is a bit overpopulated at the moment. wink Ah, but I jest. About everyone being asexual, not the overpopulation bit. @ ~Pretty Pink Depression~: Please, this is a discussion, not an arguement. Comments like that don't exactly belong here. Okay? ... Also, it's more than a little irritating/hurtful to have someone doubt that one's sexuality exists, so, ehm. Keep it calm, everyone?

Sexuality and sexual preference exist on a spectrum. Human beings are herd animals, for the most part. We want and need the companionship and contact with our fellow men and women. To a degree I find women attractive. My best friend is a woman, but in general I prefer the company of men, especially in bed. Am I straight? Probably. Am I bi? Maybe. Am I worried about it? No. Bodies are great, but for me it's the minds and souls inside them that really determine who's attractive to me.

If its one thing I hate is when people force their beliefs on the people around them. It's not fair but I know what you're going through. One of my female friends told me the same thing not too long with her. I disagree. I don't think every woman is bisexual. It's just that we're allowed more to express ourselves when it comes to things like that.

When I was younger I used to think everyone was bisexual too. Which is why when I fell in love with my best friend (who was a girl) I wasn't opposed to starting a serious relationship with her ven though i was openly gay. Or am openly gay.
But it doesn't work that way.
We were togather for a year and the whole time I felt like I was forcing myself to stay wit her so I would be normal.
But I couldn't get intimate with her without thinking about men. It was really aggrevating but I couldn't help who I am. (grammermistakesmuch??) So yea. no it doesn't work that way. If you are attracted to one gender specifically, that's the gender for you.
Girls just don't do it for me..

Well the girls coveting other girls bodies and guys coveting other guys bodies is kinda true. I mean, I think im rather ugly...I hate my bodie and my face, and sometimes wish I looked like this other guy or that guy. (Im a guy btw. razz ) But not everyone is Bi, 1:Their are homophobic assholes you wont even look at the same gender sometimes. 2:Just because you might covet them doesnt mean you want them in your pants. xP
So, I don't really think EVERYONE Is Bisexual. 3nodding
