Is there something you've eaten that your cat(s) also like to eat ? (ex. a snack you bought, cooked meal, raw fish, etc.)
PostPosted: Fri Jan 25, 2008 1:36 pm

I think the rescue place I got my kitten from would constantly feed the cats people food (from a lunch they brought, etc) as every time I go to eat something while around my kitten, she'll jump on my lap and start sniffing the food, or sniffing my face, so I can't get the food to my mouth. xd

I end up "ignoring" her while she does this and continue eating by myself (as best I can) to show her she's not getting any. :P

Sure, I'll give her a little bit here and there when she's behaving, but when she begs like that, she doesn't get any. xd

Chelsie LOVESGoldfish crackers... the cheddar ones. She can smell them from another room. 4laugh

Violet loves chocolate. stressed badbadbad. She also enjoys most meaty stuff that I eat - she was very enthusiastic about the skin from last night's baked fish. She also enjoys cheese.

Tiger used to have a thing for bready stuff. My mum used to buy bulk doughnuts from superstore that came in a flat cardboard tray with plastic over it. If it was left on the counter he'd tear into the plastic and take one bite out of each doughnut. whee

I try not to give the cats too much prepared human food - I figure the salt, sugar, caffeine, preservatives and god only knows what else goes into pre-packaged food can't be good for them. They do get their share when something good is being cooked though. They almost all enjoy a strip of chicken or fish from whatever is being prepared. They also enjoy eggs.

Boo likes to beg when I eat italian food. I think its because cats love garlic. Also she likes to sit on my lap and try and eat my sandwich with me. When Bootsie you had to be careful when you made sandwiches. If you turned around to get anythign she would steal the meat and cheese right off your bread and eat it before you realized what had happened.

Esper absolutely LOVES watermelon. As soon as he sees it, he's more friendly then he ever is.

Oreo and Walter like vegetable crackers.

All the cats, except Mercury, like any type of seafood.

Oddly enough, Mercury doesn't like any type of people food we've found yet.

Whenever we open a can of tuna, we put it on the floor so they can lick it clean. razz All three of them love tuna.

Autumn and Misty are also fond of salmon, but Callie not so much. Autumn also likes lunchmeats.

What is it with animals and cheese, anyway? My cats like to lick the cheese off our plates when were done with our mac & cheese. And when I was staying with my friend, her two dogs would always come running and start to beg when I got out the cheese.

our cat morgan LOVES LOVES LOVES cheese - if she even thinks you're getting cheese out, she'll start purring like a madwoman until you give her some, and then she goes straight to the litter box and stinks up the whole house D:

We used to have one cart, Sly, who loved olives. it was odd. @.@

when i first got mitts, i didn't feed him any people food for a whole year. i think it worked, because he's not interested in anything i eat now. sure, he'd sniff every now and then because he's curious, but soon he loses interest and walks away. the closest he's ever gotten to eating people food is plucking a kernel from the bowl of popcorn that i was eating. i guess the salt interested him. but he just licked at it a couple of times and then abandoned it.

because of grumbles' past, i think food is food for her, so she would bug me every now and then when i am eating. she used to munch on slices of bread whenever i make sandwiches and turn my back for only five seconds. she enjoys scraps of meat of whatever i'm eating. she is developing a liking for cream-based sauces as well.

oh, and grumbles loves loves loves beef jerky. she'd eat the whole pack if she could. that was the only time i've seen her to be so persistent. she climbed up on my lap and waved her paws at me and looked at me with big, pleading eyes. when i finally offered her a piece, she happily took it in her mouth, climbed down to the floor, and munched on it with more patience than i'll ever have for beef jerky.

i did have to give up my tuna water (i like including them in the tuna dishes i make) for mitts and grumbles. they love tuna water. it's like their special treat whenever i make tuna mac & cheese for myself.

Oh man, pretty much anything we eat, the cats think is for them. Timmy LOVES oranges and fruit, too. Pepper is fond of fish and she's also a total chicken-beast.

We call them our 'Food Fan Club', because they're so attentive when we eat. Make some food and there's two cats sitting on your lap, watching the spoon move from your mouth to the bowl, intently.

When Pepper was a kitten, we used to let her smell all our food before we ate it. So now that she's an adult, she wants to smell the food, but she doesn't care too much to eat most of it. Timmy tho, is just a big piggy xd

One of my parents' cats (Phoebe, the purebred they adopted from a shelter mentioned in another thread) stole a brownie from my mom when she was a kitten (we'd noticed that kittens tend to have an affinity to starches that they outgrow), but if you say the "c" word (chocolate) around her now, her ears will perk and she'll give you the eyes of pathetic-ness. We usually cave and let her lick a little off our fingers.

We think Phoebe was introduced to potato chips by her original owners, so she always appears when she hears the crinkle of chip bags, although she gets very affronted if they're of the reduced-salt variety. rofl

They'll all eat your standard meats and fish, and Sephie has a particular love of dairy, so of course she's the only one who's lactose intolerant (we put that together when she stole some pink yogurt of my sister's, and then promptly puked up pink creamy stuff). So every so often she gets cheddar flavored cat milk, and she'll eat the remnants of my mom's oatmeal, and if we're having soy cheese with something we'll let her have some.

My boys have the starch affinity something awful (if I leave a bag of bread out they'll chew through the plastic and then eat the bread stare ) and when we have certain meals we have to close them out of the room because they'll just be awful about it. They're both super curious about a hot oven, but the frantic smacking with a hot potholder while saying "shoo!" has managed to convince them that maybe exploring the oven is a bad idea (although when I cook things I have to fuss over with the oven door open, I just kick them out of the kitchen and make my husband watch them, but with the small stuff it's too much hassle).

Most of my cats are pretty indifferent to people food, although leave a glass of milk unattended and they'll plunk their faces right in. Lucky absolutely LOVES roast beef lunchmeat though. He sits on the counter and cries so pitifully when I make a sandwich, so I usually tear a tiny bit off and give it to him.

I had a steak for dinner tonight and gave him a tiny sliver with a little bit of gristle and he was in heaven. He also tries to climb my leg when I cook hamburgers, so I guess he just really likes beef of any sort rofl .

Recently my calico cat Minnie begs when ever we sit down at the table as a family since we tend to eat food with meat (turkey chicken beef) when we do eat at the table.
And since she tends to be more loving towards my dad than we allow her to stay and get some table scraps.
The black and whites tend to beg for food from my mom when she does not want to share.
Another favorite "human" food they all seem to like is cheese slices.

My cats have their fair share of favorites. Zoey shows up meowing everytime a turkey sandwhich is being made. Lilly didn't like any human food, but the other day she found a love for Starbucks. The same can be said of Mikey, escept he also eats popcorn, Lettuce, PB&J, Donuts, any white meat, yogurt, and my Mom's fudgesicles. Come to think of it, I think they all eat her fudsicles. xD

EDIT// I just lost part of my sandwhich to Lilly. Apparently she likes bread crust.
